@bob no selection bias whatsoever.
@Alonely0 @bob The selection ist obvious for everyone: everybody is active on Mastodon, has seen this poll, and is interested in the topic.
So I can't see any point in your remark to the poll.
@Ulan_KA the point of the remark, I believe, was to humorously point out that Mastodon users are more likely than the general public to prefer using Linux.
@scubbo @Ulan_KA It is a helpful reminder though that Mastodon is somewhat of a bubble for open source and Linux enthusiasts. We're used to the trade off of a few complications and less generalized audience for the sake of privacy and open source ideals. It's not a bad thing either - it's a good reason why Linux distros and open source vendors should be active here. It's a more targeted and useful overall engagement than X/Threads/Bsky.

@bob

I object to the word "preferred". I *use* Microsoft because I am useless on the others but in no way does this make it preferred.

@bob
I think this just proves that Mastodon is the mirror universe.
@dgar @bob Unsurprisingly, the result is what it looks like when the poll is conducted in fediverse, yes.
@tom @dgar @bob In Twitter's early days, the result would have been similar. Then came all the normies with their BlackBerries and Windows phones.
@deBaer Normies would've used Android or iOS rather than Windows Phone, unless you mean the Windows Mobile phones with Windows CE.
@DrewNaylor That was a joke, since iOS = mac OS and Android = Linux.
@dgar @bob
::looks around at everything:: Maybe the real world is the mirror universe.

@bob I selected Linux. Debian/Gnome is by far my favourite combo when it comes to just general usage.

But I have to run Windows for a lot of things that simply aren't available, like games I want to play and some things I need for work.

For this I've been using Windows Server 2022. It runs the Windows stuff but without the clutter and spyware BS of their consumer OSes.

@bob @caity eternal Every OS Sucks song is eternal. Every computer since the abacus - just a bunch of crap

@bob Linux for servers, Mac for work (coding), Windows for home (games, WSL for coding). Voted Windows because at a pinch I can use it for everything. It would be a stretch to say I "prefer" it though, I just use it.
@200ok @bob I find Linux better in terms of general computing and coding, things are just more snappier, and I've noticed that Linux native games also run better than Windows, sometimes even with proton.
@bob all used under protest. Nothing preferred about it.
@bob Mac on the desk / lap. Linux in the cloud
@bob don't say it, don't say it, don't say it...

@delopa @bob

@delopa

Néophyte 🤕

Gracias pour ces précisions. 🙏

@delopa @bob Microsoft and Mac aren't operating systems either
@robinadams @bob Yeah, but I don't talk about the devil 🥸
@delopa @bob Are you suggesting it should say Gnu/Linux?
@WildEyedBoyFromFreecloud @bob Not necessarily. Some Linux-based systems are not using GNU software suite. This meme is just referring to the fact that Linux is a kernel, not an entire OS (as NT is Windows' kernel and XNU is macOS' one)
@bob Microsoft Windows or Microsoft Bob?
@darkcyberman @bob well, actually, Bob is just another gui for windows 3.1 and 95.
Better would be Microsoft Windows or Microsoft DOS or xenix.
@bob I use Linux but I would love to use #netbsd.
