@luckytran just in time for the summer surge!

I mean, I'm glad they're doing this, but it feels like this is something that should have cube much sooner

@luckytran Thanks for posting RECEIPTS as well as the showy screenshot. #citizenjournalism
@luckytran Hi. 👋 Just wondering... will a non-expired test purchased a while ago not detect current variants such as JN.1?
@luckytran Better than nothing, but feels like closing the barn door after the cow's escaped.

@luckytran I kinda wish they just provided an EBT like system for these. It's nice getting them shipped but these kits expire pretty quickly and it doesn't make sense to "hoard" them.

So much less waste if I can simply order a kit from a local store and have it fully comped.

@jeromechoo @luckytran

They don't "expire quickly". They ship with a limited expiration date because that's all they were tested for so that's how they must be labeled. Then as time goes by the expiration dates get extended as real world use proves they're still efficacious. https://www.cnet.com/health/are-your-covid-tests-really-expired-find-out-here/

It's possible you may have expired COVID-19 test kits that have had their shelf life extended in your home.

@artemesia Thanks, I was about to post this same reply. 🥰

@artemesia @luckytran this is helpful thanks. I’m seeing that a few kits are extended for at least a year. Still, ive been lucky enough not to get COVID this year. All my kits are expired even with the extension now.

The EBT system would still be a better alternative to wasted kits that could’ve gone to someone who needed it more.

@jeromechoo @luckytran How quickly do they expire? I have some about to expire that were bought early last year?
@cbartschffm @luckytran generally 6 months plus whatever extension the FDA gives. Looks like an extra year sometimes but depends on kit and lot.
@luckytran Free tests for that thing that totally doesn't exist anymore? Hmm... 🤔 /s
@luckytran i am so sorry this is all they give you, after all this time.
@luckytran yay!!! That is excellent!
@luckytran ugh. I just ordered some this morning. At least I didn't order two boxes as was my initial intent
@luckytran well, crumbs are better than nothing. But give me the alternate world where everyone gets a regular supply of masks and higher-quality molecular test kits…
@luckytran what infuriates me is the complacency too many have had over Covid.

@luckytran

Where did the funding come from? The program stopped in the spring this year because the GOP House cut the funding, and I doubt they've found the milk of human kindness since then. Maybe the Biden white house reallocated some funds from another source, thinking "only 5 months to go, sue us, assholes".

@luckytran perhaps the covid test manufacturing industry needed a shot in the arm and where better to get it than from the government?
@luckytran
Order your free COVID-19 Tests at the end of September.
@luckytran that'll come a little late for me, as I am in my 2nd day of COVID. Hopefully it turns out better for me this time than the last time.
@luckytran yay, I'll put them in the stack of the first rounds I haven't used.
@luckytran do you know if Bridge Access Program has ended? CDC just says "will end in August 2024"
@Lironah @luckytran I just hope we get accessible tests again too!
@luckytran Gosh, can they also send masks?
@luckytran so after the school year has already started.
Cue the surge in pediatric cases in mid September.
