@luckytran just in time for the summer surge!
I mean, I'm glad they're doing this, but it feels like this is something that should have cube much sooner
@luckytran I kinda wish they just provided an EBT like system for these. It's nice getting them shipped but these kits expire pretty quickly and it doesn't make sense to "hoard" them.
So much less waste if I can simply order a kit from a local store and have it fully comped.
They don't "expire quickly". They ship with a limited expiration date because that's all they were tested for so that's how they must be labeled. Then as time goes by the expiration dates get extended as real world use proves they're still efficacious. https://www.cnet.com/health/are-your-covid-tests-really-expired-find-out-here/
@artemesia @luckytran this is helpful thanks. I’m seeing that a few kits are extended for at least a year. Still, ive been lucky enough not to get COVID this year. All my kits are expired even with the extension now.
The EBT system would still be a better alternative to wasted kits that could’ve gone to someone who needed it more.
@thegarbagebird @luckytran From America,
Thanks, Binchicken
Where did the funding come from? The program stopped in the spring this year because the GOP House cut the funding, and I doubt they've found the milk of human kindness since then. Maybe the Biden white house reallocated some funds from another source, thinking "only 5 months to go, sue us, assholes".
