What is WireGuard? | Proton

WireGuard is a fast, lightweight, and secure VPN protocol that now servers as the default protocol for Proton VPN.

@protonprivacy It's cool of course. But are you going to add #Linux support to Proton Drive (and when)?

#protondrive #protondrivelinux

@network_is_reliable @protonprivacy as a walk around you can use rclone, if you'd like a gui there's kapitainsky.github.io/RcloneBrowser/
RcloneBrowser

Simple cross platform GUI for rclone. Supports macOS, GNU/Linux, BSD family and Windows.

RcloneBrowser
@MarkAssPandi @protonprivacy It is first thing I tried. Got lots of signature errors after few weeks. Don't use it anymore. Thinking about canceling my subscription and move somewhere else.
@network_is_reliable @protonprivacy oh, damn
well its support in rclone is kinda beta and stuff
I could recommend Filen, doesn't have rclone support but has a nice desktop app
@network_is_reliable @MarkAssPandi @protonprivacy Rclone works for me, you probably just have to set it right for some specific cloud providers (ex. Microsoft Onedrive) to work.
@joe9nf @MarkAssPandi @protonprivacy Well, if you use only RClone it works more or less. But there are some differences in openpgp.js that lead to incompatible signatures.

@network_is_reliable @protonprivacy On a post that's *finally* doing something on Linux that has been requested (even if less requested), I feel like it'd be better for all involved to celebrate that instead of jumping straight back into "drive linux when". Give credit when they do things right, you know?

Drive linux when can wait for tomorrow, just this once.

@neatnit @protonprivacy Thanks for advice. Did you know that you can set up just plain Wireguard on Linux for years? But you can not use Drive reliably on Linux. Not sure about you, but for me it's a big difference between being able to use the product somehow vs not having the product at all.
@network_is_reliable I didn't try to give any advice, I just gave my opinion. Not trying to start a fight...

@network_is_reliable @protonprivacy

rclone supports Proton Drive. You can sync folders or mount the whole drive into a directory.

@protonprivacy Just get the AppleTV app finished
@protonprivacy will the TCP part be merged back into the linux kernel?
@protonprivacy How can I determine which servers support ipv6? I can't see any indicator when I am making a wireguard profile, and the servers mentioned on reddit don't seem to exist!

@ibrokemypie Hi! You're looking at an outdated post. Check this one instead for more up-to-date info: https://www.reddit.com/r/ProtonVPN/comments/1ef2i62/ipv6_support_has_been_expanded_to_more_servers/
@protonprivacy how do I change to Wireguard in protonvpn-cli?
@quasicitizen The CLI is not supported at this time. We're planning to release a V4 version of it as well, as a counterpart to the official Linux client, further down the line.
@protonprivacy this would be awesomeness, because the gui version stopped working few months ago and since then I'm forced to use the cli.
@quasicitizen We assume you were using the old version of the GUI, or the community client. Please try installing our latest V4 version (available for Ubuntu, Fedora, and Debian-based distros): https://protonvpn.com/support/linux-vpn-setup

@protonprivacy When will you have support for Arch Linux with QT version as you used to have?
@cybervoid We'll note your request to help the team prioritize this. For the time being, you can consider a manual configuration on unsupported Linux distros: https://protonvpn.com/support/wireguard-configurations

Advanced users can use third-party WireGuard clients using ProtonVPN configuration files.

@protonprivacy Thank you! I'd like to make another suggestion, which is to accept payments in cryptocurrencies, mainly bitcoin (On-chain and Lighnigh Network) and monero. Since many countries have adopted a lot of censorship, authoritarianism and surveillance. I recently saw news that a certain country started fining around $8,000 for using vpn. Using card payments and paypal is not viable in that country, for example. That's why we need to adopt cryptocurrencies as a means of payment too.
@protonprivacy Since you're developing proton wallet, you could add an integration to make it easier to pay for proton services (Vpn, Mail, Drive, etc.).
