Wow, so it looks like a number of people may have brought home an accidental souvenir after #DefCon32 ...

...Last night I knew something wasn't right inside of me and after I got Kimmy and Emily and the rest of their clan dropped off at the airport I had to hustle back to the house pretty quickly, wherein I proceeded to have a riotous bad time in the bathroom for a bit.

I was running a fever and shivering and all occupants of my digestive system had apparently been given an emergency mass evacuation order... but as of right now at least, I'm COVID negative. 🤒

My fever has already started coming down this morning. So... winning?

(I suspect some flavor of food safety issue may have gotten me. Sounds like a number of people may have been afflicted with that malady while in Vegas.)

I hope most of you are doing okay! 🤢

@deviantollam Likely listeria. It's going through a lot of food processing plants right now. Boards Head recently recalled seven tons of meat! There are how many other producers that don't even know yet, or haven't told. Adam and I had it a couple of weeks ago. It's ugly.
@Sempf @deviantollam the Boar's Head recall started that way but got a LOT bigger, ended up > 7 million pounds though I suspect a lot of that had already been sold and consumed.
@fencepost @deviantollam Yeah I had a brain fart on the number. But where else it is around that we don't even know about? This stuff comes in waves.
@Sempf @deviantollam if this is something you're actually interested in you might appreciate the Food Safety Talk and Risky Or Not podcasts done by @bugcounter and Ben Chapman. FST tends to be long discussions, RoN is shorter single topic responses to particular questions (but still 10-20 minutes because it's 2 academics)
@fencepost @deviantollam @bugcounter Wow, thanks! I will certainly check those out.

@deviantollam In our side of the pond, we're seeing a new kind of norovirus which shows very similar symptoms to yours: Extremely excited bowels, fever, shivering, etc.

Try to rest, and drink lots of water and replenish your minerals somehow (mineral water helps).

Get well soon.

@deviantollam @bayindirh Awesomest part of noro is that typical immunity only lasts six months. :-(

@deviantollam that last pic of the covid test gives me flashbacks... that specific test kit, I was forced to get them the last few times I got the free kits, thanks to my then insurance, Aetna (ugh!) forcing you to use their parent company CVS.

Those CVS branded ones I have gotten ~20 kits of over two batches, and EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. had so little fluid in it, the swab absorbed all of it and left NOTHING to test with. They also refused replacing them for me so I had to buy a dozen new ones. :\

@deviantollam Hope you fell better soon!

Note to self: If attending a conference in Vegas, to keep from getting sick wear a Level A Hazmat suit AND bring your own food...
@deviantollam I got this at defcon last year. Never did flag a cov19 test, but symptoms were AWFUL. Spent all Sunday in a darkened hotel room until about 9pm until i could get enough energy to go downstairs to grab some meds for the worst headache i have ever had.
@deviantollam Sounds like norovirus. The only good thing about that is that it burns out very quickly. Keep up your fluids!
@deviantollam Typical signs of Noro. I had it once while on vacation and it was a real cramp on my plans.
@deviantollam Sadly, con crud has been a thing long before Covid.
@deviantollam just curious if you took enovid this year?
@deviantollam ahh, back to the days when you could catch con pox and it's not COVID
@deviantollam if you can, do a PCR test 5 days after your last exposure just to be sure. Take care 😊
@deviantollam yup, currently fighting through something that has me torn up.
@4rchmg I hope you come through it well. I'm definitely COVID neg so at least there's that. Hopefully you are, too.
@deviantollam yup I’m negative as well.
