Was on a flight to Europe when the Patreon news dropped, but don’t really have anything to add that hasn’t been said

This *is* Apple now — arguably the greediest corporation around today, with no compassion for indies and artists. Really makes me ashamed to have ever defended Apple as the good guys https://news.patreon.com/articles/understanding-apple-requirements-for-patreon

Apple’s requirements to hit creators and fans on Patreon

Apple requires that Patreon switch to their iOS in-app purchase system, or risk being removed from the App Store. Here’s what’s creators need to know.

Apple’s requirements to hit creators and fans on Patreon
@rileytestut it's insane to me how they're doubling down on all their shitty practices now after being under fire for them
@ipg they’re basically just stealing Trump’s playbook

@rileytestut @ipg It feels like Apple is becoming the Donald Trump of the big tech industry. *sad*

A few Apple executives should probably be gifted an orange jumpsuit in recognition of their business practices. 🤪

@ipg @rileytestut That's what they do best - make shitty decisions, then wait out the storm until it either blows over or becomes the industry standard.
@rileytestut I used to bear the supposed insult of being an "Apple fanboy" with pride; nowadays I am almost ashamed to own a large number of Apple products and to have promoted the ecosystem. Were the others only so much smarter years ago or has it really only become so much worse in recent years?
@esamecar @rileytestut It’s definitely become worse. 20 years ago, Apple was getting a lot of growth by being the anti-Microsoft, an underdog with a moral compass. What felt like core company values back then now appears to have been a marketing strategy that got them to where they are now. They’ve saturated most of their markets and the only growth left comes from squeezing their locked-in customers and business partners. So the moral compass goes down the drain in service of ROIC and EBITDA.
@esamecar @rileytestut A whole lot of people feel the same way

@rileytestut Apple is going to screw their golden goose until it has laid its last egg and everyone hates them.

Developing for iOS is a chore. Why pay 30% for the privilege? Abandon the app and enhance the website that serves everyone.

What garbage leadership.

@rileytestut I don’t think you should feel ashamed. You didn’t know that’d go this far in their belief that developers and creatives *owed* them. It’s disgusting but I never would’ve thought this is where we’d end up either.

If anything Apple owes developers for making them as successful as they are. I’m sad they don’t *want* to see that.

@rileytestut good take. I feel the same way!
@rileytestut can’t wait for @gruber to solely blame the EU for this as is Apple has been forced to do this.
@jorgesalvador @rileytestut @[email protected] If he doesn’t they won’t let him lob embarrassing softballs at Apple execs after their events.
@jorgesalvador @rileytestut @gruber He is a sycophant. Gross as it gets.
