@arstechnica
I don't understand why vaccines are a political issue. 🤦‍♂️🤷‍♂️

@godzero @arstechnica

It’s an interesting concept because yeah, it seems like it should be very politically neutral — just like any sort of medicine

I think there’s an element of fascist purity in the rejection of vaccines, i.e. humans who are strong enough to survive these diseases shouldn’t have to protect the vulnerable (e.g. chicken pox) — COVID-19 aggravated that quite a bit

The Politics of Fear: Right Wing Anti-Gender and Anti-Vaccination Narratives - Women In International Security

By Ann-Kathrin Rothermel[1] Persistence of Anti-gender Narratives Towards the end of January 2022, a Canadian trucker movement, which calls itself “Freedom Convoy,” made headlines for its loud and partially violent reaction to cross-border vaccination mandates between the United States and Canada. The protests quickly devolved into a mix of anti-government and far-right activism, with common

@arstechnica the first live stream of a Rabies death surely isn't far away.

@arstechnica Republicans in the USA are a cult of idiocy at this point.

We need to stop pretending that they're a political party, and treat them like the cultists and anti-American / anti-education idiots that they are.

@arstechnica Their ignorance may be blissful, but it's dangerous as fuck for the rest of us.
@arstechnica I'm surprised the number is that low
@arstechnica Why blame “the divide” for falsehoods on one side of the divide?
@arstechnica Even if all (rather than maybe a dozen) of the deaths recorded on VAERS were verified to have been caused by a COVID vaccine, the death rate would still be orders of magnitude lower than the death rate from COVID itself. Given the massive number of people who have had at least one COVID vax, if it were even half as deadly as the virus itself, there would be bodies stacked up in every walk-in freezer in the country.
@arstechnica I had leg braces built into boots & wrist crutches(I used 2), just like those ones - in the early 1980s. I was the only kid who had polio in schools here.

@arstechnica

Send them back to primary school…

@arstechnica The good news is that in the long run, this is a self-correcting problem. The sad news is that they are taking children with them.
@arstechnica I'm just old enough to recall
Polio and wards full of children in iron lungs (Look it up, kids!). Remember, Republicans are disease carrying vermin. By choice.
@arstechnica All of these deviant maga morons have had vaccinations when they were infants, otherwise, they would be dead. Lets have a cholera outbreak and see who scrambles for a shot. Magas are hypocrites.
@arstechnica Worldwide. Just one of the USian problems that doesn’t stop at the border.
@arstechnica At this point in time I say dont get the vaccine and let natural selection do the rest. F**m
@arstechnica
Sounds about right. Pew research lists ~48% of registered voters are or lean Republican. So 31% of that is less than 15% overall. I kind of thought it might be higher

@arstechnica Overselling the COVID vaccines surely didn't help. Despite all the data to the contrary, most people I know who've had the COVID vaccine (even if they haven't been boosted in over a year!!) think they can relax. "You need the vaccine and you still need to be careful for yourself and especially for others after you've had it" is a level of nuance that breaks a lot of USians' brains.
