Clarence Thomas ruled in favor of Citizens United. Harlan Crow and his family's political contributions then went up 862%. Then we later find out Thomas let Crow take him on lavish trips, buy his mom's house, and help fund his wife's conservative nonprofit. See how this works?

@rbreich

<sarcasm>

I wonder if Thomas has to file a 1099 for all those contractor fees he's receiving.

</sarcasm>

@401matthall @rbreich
I wonder if he paid taxes on all those gifts.
@rbreich he needs to resign

@littleEva @rbreich But there’s no incentive for him to, given that he lacks any kind of integrity or respect for the position he’s in.

I have a theory that the reason he accepts all these bribes and lavish gifts is because it subconsciously affirms his internalised racism, that if rich white men are giving him money, then he must be worth something to them.

@rbreich This sort of criminal activity by an appointed or elected federal official should be categorized the same as treason and prosecuted and punished accordingly.
@rbreich Wouldn't we have a better life with no lawyers...

@rbreich

This is bribery plain and simple. Luckily for Thomas and Crow, Thomas and his similarly-compromised buddies on the court ruled that bribery is totally legal unless you record yourself saying "this is an illegal bribe and I am committing a crime" while you are taking the bribe and then upload the video to YouTube.

Any court with Thomas and Alito on it is a corrupt court.

@rbreich I'm on my city's bicycle commission as a non-voting official. I have more rigorous ethical laws than a SCOTUS justice. If I did anything that Thomas has, I would have been immediately expelled from my position, hit with a misdemeanor, and fined for up to triple the price of the gift.
@rbreich Clarence Thomas '18' years are up. Lets get Biden's reforms passed in Congress! Vote Democrat!
@rbreich @bplein and it’s after the fact, so in line with the SCOTUS decision on when “gifts” are problematic.

@juandesant @rbreich Thomas is the symptom. Crow is the cause.

If we can’t fight the cause, we can treat the symptom.

Let’s find a way to get rid of Thomas. Reform the court with an ethics-based system.

We can also go after the cause but that’s a longer term goal. Treat the symptom. Thomas is a ringworm that we have to treat with anti-fungal medicine until he’s wiped out.
