I listen to stuff like this and it is ALWAYS the state / province which holds the city back and often screws it over.
North America desperately needs devolution of power to municipalities.
New York City was about to roll out congestion charging. The cameras were up, the staff were hired, the metro projects were financed, and thousands of people were lined up to make public transit better ... and then the governor cancelled it on vibes.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Congestion_pricing_in_New_York_Cityhttps://thewaroncars.org/2024/06/07/kathy-hochuls-congestion-pricing-flip-flop-fiasco/https://www.politico.com/news/2024/06/05/new-york-city-toll-hochul-democrats-00161930https://hellg…

At the south #Merced community meeting, and several representatives from #MercedTheBus were there. Among some of the questions raised were:
- One person who drives and never takes the bus expressed concern about bus stops that are unsafe for bus occupants as well as drivers, due to lack of bus pullouts
- Lack of traffic enforcement on people parking at bus stops
- Urging the bus company to rearrange their network to make catching connecting buses easier
Heading to #GoldenValleyHealthClinic on Childs Ave in Merced in a few minutes to meet with a South Merced advocacy group. I was invited at the last city council meeting where I met someone aligned with my views after speaking to the council about the importance of abolishing #ParkingMinimums
One of the topics is going to be how the Merced Bus Service ( #MercedTheBus ) arranges its bus stops.
Turns out, it's a lot easier to network about this stuff when you turn up in person.
