I'm British so have never heard of a "DEI hire". They make it sound like it's about hiring people that are not qualified, so I can only assume it stands for Don Jr, Eric, and Ivanka.
@selzero just Donald, Eric and Ivanka, the D can stand for either one

@selzero I thought it was a government job of some sort. I mean it sounds like it. DEI, Department of Energy and Industry, Department of Engineering and Infrastructure, Department of Economics and Investments, something along those lines.

"They are a DEI hire", oh, right a new government bod in the company then...

It is the dullest term for what they think is a spicy rant. It completely went over my head.

@selzero brilliant! πŸ˜‚
@selzero Just in case anyone looking at this wants the serious answer and can't be arsed to search for it: it stands for "diversity, equity, and inclusion". In saying someone is a "DEI hire", the speaker is implying the referenced individual got the job only because of their status as a minority, giving them priority over whites so that the company can point to them and say "see, we don't just hire whites". In other words, it's racist as shit.
@selzero why are Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion such bad things to them?
@JDsGhost @selzero same reason Lindsey Graham thought saying that VP Harris " sponsored the Green New Deal and Medicare for all" was a sick burn?
@andersvb @selzero "this lady is wack! She wants to give our citizens what they want!" ~Lindsey Graham, probably
@JDsGhost @selzero
It has just become a code term used instead what they really want to say but are (sometimes) careful not to say it out loud. The actual meaning is irrelevant.
Exclusive: Lee Atwater’s Infamous 1981 Interview on the Southern Strategy

The forty-two-minute recording, acquired by James Carter IV, confirms Atwater’s incendiary remarks and places them in context.

@selzero
It's also not to be confused with the DUI hire. That's a Republican thing.
@selzero you just won the gold medal🀣
@selzero Logical conclusion, that makes perfect sense!
@selzero you probably can't hear the hard-r on that side of the pond
@selzero omg that is brilliant. i'm going to start using it whenever i hear DEI mentioned now. πŸ˜† πŸ˜† πŸ˜†
@selzero yes!!!πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ» Good call!

@selzero stands for β€œDidn’t Earn It”, you know, as in, JD Vance. What has he done to earn the potential to be a heartbeat away from being the President of the United States? Or for us Canadians, Pierre Polievre, career politician with absolutely zero accomplishments to his name.
@selzero We had DER to hire our TVs from in the 1980s.

@selzero Perfect! Harris needs to keep this in her back pocket!

@selzero
I'm working for a conservative US company in Europe. Diversity is key in the corporate culture because they don't want any talents to be excluded and (maybe more important πŸ˜‰) any customers to be excluded. But I am sure there are no DEI hires.
But beside such 'economic' reasons they know - and it's a fact - that everyone is feeling better in such an environment.
@selzero Our country has a Disability hire.
There, they are required to be much more strictly obedient and mild-mannered than able-bodied people are employed, and to be generous in order to support other disabled people.
@selzero if you're in any doubt as to how viral this has gone: my dad just texted me a screenshot of it
@selzero Hey, this is the toot that did all those numbers I've heard about.
