@mojo Well, Fleming was imbued with the U snob's hatred and envy of the merely {extremely rich}, something which I've always thought was F.DR.'s secret weapon.
Note as well that Fleming's most famous villains also were also to him his racial inferiors, Dr No German/Chinese, Auric Goldfinger a namesake of a Jewish neighbour Fleming despised.
But the original point is valid regardless: talent at making and inheriting money doesn't translate into making decisions good for the rest of us.
@mojo That shouldn't be controversial, but the Silicon Valley mob, whether 'libert'arian or 'dark Enlightenment' are united in wanting societies in which there is basically no morally valid power _except_ that stemming from wealth, which (coïncidentally!) would leave them with almost all of it.
—and one of their fervent acolytes/employees very possibly will be President sooner than even Mr Trump thinks…at which point perhaps they will learn that his skill at betrayal can extend to _them_, too.
@jimmy_mac888 Yes, Elon Musk is basically Hugo Drax.
The hyper-wealthy, eccentric billionaire. Rockets. Grand visions for humanity's future. A messianic belief in his own redesign of civilisation. Influence so vast it unsettles.
Life copied the Bond villain template, decades later.
The only thing we're missing is the Bond: a misogynistic Balkan drunk like Dusko Popov, stumbling his way to saving the day.
