NY Times Editorial Board: "Mr. Trump has shown a character unworthy of the responsibilities of the presidency. He has demonstrated an utter lack of respect for the Constitution, the rule of law and the American people. ... He is, quite simply, unfit to lead." https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2024/07/11/opinion/editorials/donald-trump-2024-unfit.html
Opinion | Donald Trump Is Unfit for a Second Term

He failed the tests of leadership and betrayed America. Voters must stand up to him in November.

The New York Times

@w7voa
I'm ready for the #NYTimes editorial declaring the #RepublicanParty unfit.

They just said:
"It is a national tragedy that the Republicans have failed to have a similar debate about the manifest moral and temperamental unfitness of their standard-bearer, instead setting aside their longstanding values, closing ranks and choosing to overlook what those who worked most closely with the former president have described as his systematic dishonesty, corruption, cruelty and incompetence."

@TCatInReality

The Gift Link didn’t work for me, but from your quote it sounds like NYT managed to “both sides” it by working their howls for Biden’s disqualification into trying to shame republicans into ditching trump (I note they don’t address trump directly as they did Biden).
Don’t they know Repubs don’t do shame?

@bronakins @TCatInReality If your browser has reader mode, use it (firefox page looking thing in address bar). Disables all the crap sites use to bombard you with popups and adverts and banners and automatically playing jump out videos so you can just read the content. A lot of sites build their paywalls on the client side, meaning you have the text of the article you just have to turn off all the nonsense so it'll display. That's how stupid it all is.

Article unsurprising but a worthy read

@w7voa So, has the New York Times finally come out of its (self induced) “…but her emails…”, #Felon45 boosting integrity coma?
@steveo1049 @w7voa It's only one article. Let's see if they keep this up because it's finally the truth!!
@otownKim @steveo1049 @w7voa
The subscription cancellations got them to write one editorial critical of Trump, but that doesn't come close to remedying the damage done to the Democratic Party for their oligarch owner's benefit.
@GreenFire @steveo1049 @w7voa Exactly! Damage already done. This is an organization that promoted Literal Nazis pre WW2. F the NYT!!!
@steveo1049 @w7voa No, they just want to fend off some of the criticism.

@steveo1049 @w7voa

As I said before, if they really believed their own editorial board, the front page every day should be about how awful Trump is. Since it is not, this editorial is just a head fake to keep Dems giving the Times the benefit of the doubt for a little bit longer.

The NYT is 100% Trump fascist now.

@steveo1049 @w7voa I really can't imagine that happening any time in the near future.
@w7voa Is this for real? I'm not a subscriber to NYT... and can't read the article.
@w7voa How nice of them to get around to this.
@w7voa one could have come to the same conclusion in 2015

@w7voa

The Los Angeles Times Editorial Board echoes the same sentiment this very morning:

https://www.latimes.com/opinion/story/2024-07-11/la-trump-unfit-for-office-biden-election

Editorial: One candidate is patently unfit for the White House: Trump

As Democrats weigh Biden's future, let's remember that Trump already failed the presidential fitness test. If Republicans cared about democracy, they'd be scheming to push him aside.

Los Angeles Times

@RodneyPetersonTalent @w7voa

NYT is bleeding readership..that's why the shift.

@w7voa

It’s unbelievable the nation is spending so much time questioning Biden’s verbal acuity, when the greatest concern ought to be his challenger is a self-aggrandizing felon and twice-impeached election-denier. Trump fomented the Jan. 6 insurrection, shows contempt for rule of law and shamelessly lies in pursuit of more power. He’s an authoritarian who admires murderous despots, wants to jail political enemies and has publicly flirted with declaring himself dictator his first day back.

@w7voa

This doesn't make up for the slow drip of poison normalising his candidacy.

@w7voa A day late and a dollar short, @nytimes - times several hundred, actually.
@w7voa even a blind pig (#nyt) finds an acorn now and then.
@w7voa So why are they supporting him then?
@w7voa Just remember everyone, they did this only because they were pressured to from immediate subscription cancellations. And even they they couldn’t help but take a quick swipe at Biden again anyway in passing while they never once mentioned the wrongdoings of tRump in their multiple and baseless hit pieces on Biden. I don’t buy their 💩 for one damn second.

@w7voa

Here’s my take (without reading as gift link doesn’t work for me & I probably won’t see it elsewhere since so many ditched NYT).

BronMason (@[email protected])

This is rich— the NYT could and should have been written well before the debate—like when trump announced for 2024. It’s like in sports after the refs totally blow a call that changes the course of the game, they try to do a “make-up” call … https://journa.host/@w7voa/112767732373902027

@w7voa did I wake up in an alternate universe ?

@w7voa looks a bit suss after everybody wailed on the NYT for not mentioning this until we all kicked off.

but sure, you've fooled us again haven't you NYT, you're so clever.......

@w7voa Now let's see whether other news media have the integrity to reprint this or draw people's attention to it. Let's see whether they challenge GOP officials to say what their response is.
NYTimes Launders Its Own Agency - emptywheel

NYT has now matched its scold to Biden about what he "should" do and order to Democrats about what they "must" say with an op-ed on Trump, observing that he "is" unfit to lead with no more than an urgent call on voters to do something about it. Would that NYT would match that opinion with equal parts reporting on why Trump is unfit.

@w7voa

I'm still not going to look at the #NewYorkTimes until after the election, and maybe not even then.

@w7voa @RuthMalan
hold up are these the same editors behind the actual news they publish?
@w7voa after.
Readership tanking huh?
@w7voa I hope Sinclair Media has a similar piece…
@w7voa Wow! That picture looks like someone stuck Mr. Potato Head up Trumps tailpipe and his engine has shut down.
@w7voa Also NY Times: "But Biden is old, so...tough call."
@w7voa A big part of the appeal of Trump are his rallies. They are events, happenings, street parties! They energize the base and cement a cult-like belief of building a better nation.These images are a small set of a rally I covered in 2016. The nearby counter protesters were er, umm ... thoughtful at best.
This is the kind of energy that Democrats must induce Joyful, a "we will do it!" sensibility. The focus on the (REAL) threat to Democracy is important (!) but what a downer!

@w7voa

They want to look "Fair and Balanced"

@w7voa As if he has ever been fit for anything......
@w7voa you have to wonder what the rate os subscription cancellation is to provoke this change of heart. #mediafail

@w7voa

Wow! It is almost like they woke up and noticed people unsubscribing or something.

Or, maybe they noticed the negative press coverage here calling them out.

Do not fall for it, they will contnue to spew nonsense.

#LostGrayLady

@w7voa @briankrebs Do they mention is obvious cognitive problems?
@w7voa Bold stance, NYT. Very courageous of you. Next up an article about how water is wet, or is that taking things too far?

@w7voa 💯 💯 💯
It's about time they started stating the obvious.

#LockHimUp

@w7voa The NYT speaks out of both sides of their proverbial mouths. @Npars01
@w7voa
Five steps back, one step forward.
