Yeah that is totally normal. Nothing sketchy about that at all. All perfectly reasonable. Yup. Mmm

Clarence Thomas Accepted Yacht Trip to Russia, Chopper Flight to Putin’s Hometown: Democrats

The allegedly secret gifts were disclosed in a letter from two Democratic senators that accused Thomas of potentially committing tax fraud.

The Daily Beast
@benroyce How much money did Clarence Thomas get from Putin? It sure looks like a treasonous trip.

@mickymorse the thing is, if this were a liberal leaning judge, the howling from Republicans and Faux News would be a category 6 hurricane of noisy anger and apoplectic outrage

I bet we don't hear any of them even mentioning it

@benroyce well why do you think he ruled to legalise bribery?
@benroyce It's hard to even come up with fictional scenarios that are worse than the ones that keep emerging.

@benroyce Clarence Thomas visited dictator Putin's memorials - he chose his favorite form of government, like Ginni, who chose her favorite manipulable, debilitated seatholder of presidential office:

Dictator Putin's mafia state, where corruption, bribability, post-Stalinist personality cult & the will to oppress civil society is a precondition for holding government offices.

In this setting free = quid pro quo
#thomasiscorrupt

@benroyce

But he did turn down John Oliver's offer on the crazy road mobile 🤗

So therefore he can not possibly be corrupt in any way right 🤔

An Anti-Biden Conspirator Now Acknowledges That Ron Johnson Was “Doing the Bidding” of Russia

In sworn testimony before Congress, a former Trump henchman says the senator from Wisconsin was “our guy in the Senate.”

The Nation

@benroyce I'd like to see Thomas off the bench ASAP, but I do want to call out the click-baity headline a bit: Putin is from St. Petersburg, which is arguably one of the few tourist destinations in Russia. It's a little like saying someone makes a visit to "Trump's Hometown!" instead of just saying "New York" like a normal person. There could be more to it, but visiting a major city isn't proof of anything by itself.

Again, this doesn't mean the trip wasn't another blatant example of corruption, but it's annoying when news is unnecessarily "spiced up" like this

@benroyce

“Ask not who the shithole countries are. Ask why your country is a shithole country.”

@benroyce Knowing how russia collects kompromat on influential visitors from adversary countries. This visit needs to be investigated.

@benroyce

FFS, how is this normal and why is he still on SCOTUS?

This needs to stop!
