Harris County Fire Marshal: Generator Safety

Avoid using portable generators in apartment buildings or on apartment balconies

@ai6yr good grief... in this day and age people should be ditching generators anyway and going to things like Jackerys that you can easily charge via solar panel [or plug it into the wall when you do have power]

@MsMerope @ai6yr

But the deadly fumes and the loud noise are how you know it's working 😐

@me_valentijn @MsMerope I realize this is actually a huge issue combined with the heat, when there are a lot of generators going and CO and exhaust everywhere, but people have to open their windows to avoid getting roasted to death in their homes... non-ideal.

@ai6yr @me_valentijn @MsMerope We fill a chest freezer with organic goodies from our garden. After storms here in the #PNW we have been without power for multiple days. Having a generator means we do not lose all the food.

We also live in an area of small acreage parcels so issues related to noise/CO/exhaust are not really factors. And of course the heavy cloud cover in the rainy season greatly decreases the effectiveness of solar panels.
