I had been using the free 1Password family plan that I got from my former employer for having an enterprise subscription. At about 12:05 AM the day after my last day, I had an email from 1Password saying my account was frozen. That plumbing works fast!.

Also, I decided to stick with 1Password. I've tried a few others, and while there are certain aspects I like better, overall 1Password fits what I (and more importantly, my family) need.

@jerry

After the Lastpass debacle I switched to Bitwarden after trying a few others.

Changing hundreds of passwords was not a fun experience. Let's hope it's not needed again soon πŸ«€πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

@jerry plus you know the cost of learning new stuff x multiple hassle etc. it isn’t very much and gives your head peace of mind. Not a bad deal.
@jerry Agreed. I switched from LastPass years ago. I've had no issues with 1Password and have liked all the new features they've introduced over the years.
@jerry We are using 1Password with a family subscription as well. It works really good. My wife, absolutely no IT background, uses 1Password for everything, different passwords for every site.
I thought about to use the MacOS 18 password manager but I have also a Windows machine, so I think Iβ€˜ll stick with 1Password.
@jerry Damn, that is a quick turnaround on the enterprise subscription getting revoked. Everywhere I have been they have been operating with a 30 day grace period in case of a clerical fuckup listing someone as terminated.
@indigo The "freeze" my subscription, allowing read-only access for I think 15 days before terminating. IBM tends to have pretty robust plumbing with business partners to make sure access of people leaving is quickly terminated, so I suppose it's not surprising.

@jerry That does make it better, but that is still a surprisingly swift turnaround. A lot of the business partnerships I have dealt with, you could go ages before action was taken after being informed.

I was going to head up a location for IBM in Dublin years ago, but elected to turn it down and study to become a librarian in stead. The people doing the interviewing and security clearance stuff did seem like the kind who are very on top of onboarding and offboarding though, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

@jerry That’s interesting. I like several others in this thread switched to 1Password after leaving LastPass some years back. I keep looking at the alternatives; but then keep coming back to 1Password too.
@ImpossibleUmbrella I know many people don't like the cloud hosted aspect, but I think I'm at the point in my life where I need a bit of simplicity for certain things, and for my family, ease of use is paramount.
@jerry @ImpossibleUmbrella Exactly. That's why I use and support it with the rest of my immediate family. Except one parental unit, who doesn't trust any password manager on a computer....😞
@jerry
Did entries in Private/Personal remain?
@chillybot it's an entirely separate account for personal use. My work account is nuked, as expected, but I didn't keep anything personal in it.

@jerry I'm still on Keepass (that was what my job used so it was an easy sell - on a different database with a different key of course, not giving access to my personal data to my boss)

I might want to have a look at 1Password to see if it's worth the change ?

@dioux70 I went from keepass to 1Password. I think it’s totally worth it. πŸ‘
@jerry I switched to 1password around 5 years ago from LastPass and I've loved it! I even have an android phone too and I think it works very well ( you can tell it is an apple-first type platform, but it's not that bad). I love how it's laid out and offers a good balance of conscience and security in my opinion.
@jerry yeah, the 1Password family integration is really good.

@jerry There are ways to keep it. I have my personal through my Eero account. Even with the others out there, if you and the family use it, the cost is worth it.

Proto, keeper, bitwarden, all good options. 1PW saves me on the family tech support side.

@jerry I love the β€œfrozen” approach, where you still have read access to your vault!

@jerry I double tap with 1Password and Bitwarden. Some browsers I use don't have a 1password extension but Bitwarden works. Plus I like supporting FOSS projects.

Initially I avoided 1password when they pivoted to the network subscription model. But I finally decided they fit the best (even on Linux!) and store a lot of info besides just passwords.
