Today, I’m abruptly interrupting the current sequence on Land Rover to bring you this, the third-generation Ford Mondeo, which was sold between 2006 and 2012. Actually, that interruption is more apparent than real, because this old Mondeo holds the key to the development of Land Rover over the last twenty or so years, as I shall explain over the next few days. Local car park snaps.

@davidwilkins

Rivals the Astra for dullness but the argument in terms of value and functionality is very clear.

@davidwilkins

For the cautious, no nonsense buyer, maybe the dullness is a necessary reassurance that they are "not paying for any fancy stuff"?

Even if it could be manufactured at the same cost with a more appealing design, the sensible grey flannel shirt is itself a selling point?

@lionelb @davidwilkins I had one as a rental in Romania. Diesel 6-speed manual, and I liked it a lot. We did not get that gen in the US, tho we did get the first gen, sold as Ford Contour. I drove one with the little V6 and manual trans and it was pretty fun for a drab fordor.
@davidwilkins We have a Fusion which was the US version of the next generation of Mondeo, it's interesting to see the styling cues (like the taillights) that carried over. Always seemed a bit odd that the 2013+ Fusion looked nothing like the 2010-2012 one. Wish we'd been able to get the wagon or hatchback in the US as the sedan trunk lid is on the small side.
@drewzero1 I shall return to the subject of that very car in a post in a few days time...
