Starting today, people using Threads in 100+ countries can turn on sharing to the fediverse. 🌎
Nice
@zippyvtuber I'm very excited about this! Chilean Threads accounts can finally federate, and there's so many I need to request to do so ASAP
@zuck Test from the fediverse
@neirda @zuck well I also see your reply from Mastodon
I wanna Interact with the fediverse, not just gave them know I exist
how does everyone feel about this one. #fediverse
@SDF Pretty good, as long as https://social.sdf.org can stay online and available for longer than 24 hours at a time 🙄
SDF Social

SDF Social is a private Mastodon instance for members of the SDF Public Access UNIX System

Mastodon hosted on social.sdf.org

@SDF

Not a fan. I try to avoid all things Meta (Zuckerberg) in my life.

This feels like an intrusion at best and at worst an adoption of Microsoft's tactic to "embrace, extend, extinguish".

Wonderful!

Will we be able to receive posts from the Fediverse as well?

@danwentzel1 If you can read this, this yes!

Replying to you from Mastodon.social :D

Welcome!

When will interactions on our content in the Fediverse be reflected here on threads?
Awesome. Looking forward to receiving from the fediverse as well.
💡Fediverse Explainer: Think of it like a common standard for social media sites where you can share content across all of them, with just one account.
Imagine posting to Tik Tok and people on Instagram could follow you, watch your Tik Tok and like it from Instagram without even joining Tik Tok.
When you post on Threads, people can follow you from Mastodon and soon you’ll be able to follow Mastodon accounts without having to create an account there.
This standard, called “Activity Pub” will make the social internet better and more democratic. If Twitter had been on the Fediverse, and you didn’t like what Musk was doing with it, you could close up shop there and move to Threads with all your followers and content intact. If @Zuck goes crazy in a few years, you can move somewhere else.
Just like someone on Gmail can send an email to someone with an Outlook email or if Hotmail goes under, people just get another email company but email itself doesn’t disappear. The Fediverse is that central standard, like email, but for social media.
@zuck Congratulations! Are there some further details about this yet?
@Johan Paul I don't see my reactions on his post(I have some very old and inactive account on Instagram and now on Threads). Tried from here(Hubzilla) and from masto.ai and I don't see any reactions from #Fediverse. Maybe only he has rights to see it, atm. So I doubt is useful atm.
Libera Site

@martin could be yeah. Or then it's not yet active in the EU.
i really like the fediverse because any time I post something mentioning not knowing what I’m doing there, a little comment pops up like “well I found this post in the fediverse.” and then i feel like im in the matrix.
@zuck FWIW, doesn't seem to include the UK.

@zuck

Why do none of the replies to your cloned Threads post over here on Mastodon show up on the original post on Threads, here:

https://www.threads.net/@zuck/post/C8pQC2Ap_7w

Why do none of the replies to your original post over on Threads ever show up back over here on Mastodon?

Your use of the words #Federation and #Fediverse are a fraud and a lie

@zuck "What is the Fediverse?" I ask, while replying from the Fediverse...
Can you allow posts sent through Instagram be shared with the fediverse too? I've been using the feature a lot and it saddened me to see that they're not shared alongside my native Threads posts.
@zuck and so many thought this day wouldn’t come. Gotta give the team credit for making it this far.

@zuck which 100+ countries are these?
I feel like the EU could be excluded?
@theBurn maybe. I'm also searching for the option
@zuck amazing to see you guys ship this!
@zuck Still avoiding Europe though. Too hard to comply, eh?
@zuck This is a test. 🍻 Greetings from Cologne, Home of Gamescom!

@zuck where to check the list of those 100 plus countries?

@zuck part one of the “embrace, extend, extinguish” big tech saga

I can only hope that in the near future you don’t leverage a dominant market position for doing something stupid, forcing me to pressure my instance to defederate with you or to move to an alternative that doesn’t do it.

You do not get goodwill back by simply changing your company’s name.

@zuck the empire, united, must divide. the empire, divided, must unite
@zuck One downside of using automated alt text is that it called this Twitter.
@zuck
Turned off by default - it means that nearly nobody will use it.
