Wow. A restaurant in Chicago O’Hare, one of the biggest airports in the world, banned an infectious disease doctor from entering because they were wearing a mask. This is unacceptable.
You can file a complain about the restaurant at Chicago O'Hare denying service to mask wearers here: https://www.hmshost.com/about
@luckytran Thanks. I asked them the question on their contact form.
(BTW, I hate wearing a mask, but people should wear them if they want to or are around someone who prefers it.)

@luckytran They replied.
"Dear Sir/Madam,

We appreciate your email and wanted to follow-up.

Thank you for contacting us and giving us the opportunity to address this. We are currently investigating the matter. Our policy is to serve all travelers and we are committed to providing a safe and welcoming space for everyone.

Kind Regards,

The HMSHost Customer Care Team"

@luckytran I wonder whether a 60 year old, white, male infectious disease doctor would have been asked to leave if wearing a mask.
@VirginiaHolloway @luckytran Me too. Last time I was at ORD, yesterday, there were people wearing masks more or less everywhere.
@VirginiaHolloway @luckytran No, no, you silly! Airport security checks are TOTALLY randomized and NEVER engage in racial profiling! (Also, please ignore this photo I took a few years ago at a TSA station.)
@luckytran
I am betting that they are on the lookout for terrorists .
@palin @luckytran Then they should ask to see an ID at a restaurant inside an airport.

@luckytran
kinda makes you wonder what other health precautions they don't like.

Food temperatures?
disinfection?
general cleanliness?

@luckytran That was pathetic ... karma will take its course when enough die in the place...

@Lstn2urmama @luckytran

Nope no one cares how many die!

Proof:

There have been 236 Mass shootings with 7,970 murdered people & 15,134 injured so far in 2024.

Do you see any real change in gun laws???

BTW it's day 173 of 2024

@Mor696 @luckytran I get your point .. BUT this COVID thing is being used as POPULATION CONTROL AT THIS POINT .. ALL OVER THE WORLD...

SURVIVAL OF THE STRONGEST....

HAVE COVID FOR 18 WEEKS currently...

@Lstn2urmama @luckytran

Are you saying you have had covid for 18 weeks?

@Mor696 @luckytran Yes I did and do still have covid internally...
@luckytran Stupid is as stupid does. You v as Mr fix stupid. Just #boycottThem
@luckytran Brand implosion in 3... 2... 1...

@luckytran @JaredRutecki
Tagging a local journalist in this reply in case there’s interest in doing a story on it.

#chicago

@luckytran Maybe boycott the restaurant?
@luckytran well they don't want business then
@luckytran what laws apply to allow a restaurant to do this? Is ohare federal land? Also, if someone here knows her, please ask her to join mastodon. (I'm not on the bird site). I'm sure many here appreciate her medical insights.

@clusterfcku @luckytran

I found @ammahstarr but when I tried to look at the profile on that server, it kinda crashed and went into Development Mode.

@luckytran

Not only that but also an utter stupidity… fire the people who make such rules.

@luckytran we’re fucked. Anyone seen the movie, Idiocracy (2006)?
@luckytran @lisamelton Bummer. They had one of the best breakfasts in that airport. Ah, well.
@luckytran CLT / Charlotte is a fairly busy hub. if the NC mask ban holds what kind of mess will THAT set loose? Will travelers be advised to doff masks upon arrival?
@gollyheckfire @luckytran Likely won’t affect American Airlines but it would be nice if people avoided Charlotte to make a point.
@luckytran would it have been safer for the doctor to have entered this establishment? Because they're giving you every reason to believe otherwise...
@luckytran at least they have food there. Terminal C In Atlanta is ASS
@darwinwoodka @luckytran I just flew through Atlanta. There wasn’t any great places I could find with low CO2 levels to drink or eat. I was definitely hangry at my final destination and will likely drive from there next time!

@luckytran

Covid is not the only disease you can protect others from by wearing a mask.

What if she had tuberculosis? Or any other airborne disease?

@luckytran why tf are you going to a restaurant if you're concerned about covid?
@scott @luckytran my guess would be for food to go otherwise it’s a valid point (though made somewhat crassly)
@scott @luckytran Uh. It's an airport. People have to fly. And they have to eat. What part of that is confusing to you?
@textualdeviance @luckytran no. No flying. 😤
@scott Oh FFS. Pretty sure an infectious disease expert knows whether or not it's safe for her to fly.

@scott @luckytran

That's not the point but since you feel like attacking the victim, I'm just going to call you an asshole and say "Go Fuck Yourself."

#Dumbass

@luckytran this reverse mask logic has gotta stop.
Stella Safo, MD MPH (@AmmahStarr) on X

At Chicago O’Hare and just got told I can’t enter a restaurant bc I had a mask on. With Covid at its highest rate in months. Make it make sense.

X (formerly Twitter)
@luckytran I was walking around ohare masked up less than a month ago with absolutely 0 issues getting into an airport restaurant, not that specific one tho. I am a very generic looking white dude, this feels like racism could be part of it too if imma be honest
@luckytran It's nice to know which restaurants prefer their patrons to catch an infectious disease.
@luckytran Covid’s long time endemic, what’s really point. It’s gonna dip and peak seasonally already.

@RemeJuan @luckytran

"Covid’s long time endemic, what’s really point. It’s gonna dip and peak seasonally already."

You're an ignorant, piece of shit.

#Dumbass

@RemeJuan @luckytran Covid isn't seasonal, dumbass.
@luckytran what in the actual fck has happened to this goddamned country.
@luckytran Thanks for passing this on, for many reasons. I will be flying through Chicago at the end of August. Think I'll pack my own food.
