"YouTube confirms crackdown on VPN users accessing cheaper Premium plans"

No, listen, you just don't understand.

If Google pays taxes in a random country to cheat the system and save money, that's because "Globalism".

If you do it, you get banned though.

@fribbledom premium? lol wat - ppl pay for yt? snortlaugh
@nf3xn @fribbledom with Spotify upping prices, yes.
@knigge @fribbledom you use Spotify? eeew 😀
@nf3xn @knigge @fribbledom streaming music is a very popular way of consumption these days. i'm glad you're making your own informed decisions about this but please don't belittle others for their choices.
@dxciBel @nf3xn
Shame happens to be a very effective tool to modify corrupt social behaviour. Spotify has demonstrated time and again that it is a bad-actor. If people are still choosing such platforms, the least we must do is shame them (just like we must shame the artists who choose to play within the discriminatory boundaries set by these platforms).
@prasoon @nf3xn yeah pal you try to be an artist these days without having your music up on spotify see how that works out for ya
@dxciBel I'm not at artist so, I'm afraid, I only know second hand that to make a living on spotify one needs to have a few million plays. I don't think small artists thrive there anyway. But, if you say that spotify is the only possible way for an artist to make money, I'll take your word for it.
I'll still retain my right to shame someone prioritising a living over ethical social behaviour, however. If we are really in a hopeless situation, as you point out, all I can do is protest anyway.

@prasoon i never said you'd make money on spotify; you don't. however it has such a huge market share that not making your music available on the service massively hinders your ability to grow as an artist because it's the only way a lot of people consume music these days.

i will also maintain my right to shame people back for being unnecessarily rude under other people's posts.

@dxciBel Alright. You'd know best.
@dxciBel
Having your music on spotify is fine, using it hurts artists as well as spreds and funds medical misinformation and fasvism (their pivot to podcasts)

@MxSpoon i fail to see the part in my post where i asked for software recommendations.
@dxciBel
You can stream music without throwing money at few share holders
@MxSpoon okay, cool. i'm not gonna do that tho
@MxSpoon @dxciBel
Where do you get the music from? Does that take any extra time from you compared to paying for a streaming service? How do you host your jellyfin server? Does that cost any money or time?

@pethil
From your CDs or few thousand / million of your closest friends (redacted.ch orpheus.network)

compared to what you pay? Unless you make something like 30e/hour it is going to be cheaper.

how do you host? On your home PC for the cost of electricity. IP can be bit of a pain depending on your provider. Alternatively you rent a (virtual) server and pay less than two subscriptions per month.

also, you aren't fueling money to the pockets of few shareholders who are actively destroying the industry and, hopefully, archieving the medium
@dxciBel

@MxSpoon @pethil @dxciBel lmfao

> dont pay spotify

instead:

> pirate music instead
> spend time trying to get on redacted & setting up and managing a Jellyfin server
> spend money renting a VPS
> spend money renting a seedbox
