I can't believe I even have to say this, but it is not normal that the Supreme Court is taking its sweet time to decide if a former president is immune from prosecution for inciting an insurrection to overturn an election. This should have been decided already. The answer is no!

There is no question that the ruling will not expand the power of the presidency, SCOTUS will not give Biden the authority that tfg (#TheFelonyGuy) is trying to claim. This case was taken to run out the clock so that tfg is protected from prosecution. By using this tactic, the court has eviscerated any claim to impartiality. Any Democratic politician who now stands in the way of reforming the court is either a fool or a traitor.

@rbreich Three of the U.S. Supreme Court Justices were appointed by Trump. Two of the others are Alito and Thomas. A delay helps Trump.

@rbreich I really doubt they'd find in his favor. I think it pretty obvious the object is to keep it from happening before the election. So the theory that they'll punt it back down to the lower courts is what I think we should expect. I doubt they'll make a decision on this ever and I don't think it was ever planned they would.

The Supreme Court in 1974 took 54 days to decide this question for Richard Nixon. It's been at least 112 days for the current court with nothing yet.

I'd wager they are waiting until after the election to see which way the wind is gonna blow.

@rbreich SCOTUS, as a non-political entity, wouldn't give the slightest shit about the timing of the election or anything else here.

The fact that they're delaying even slightly proves they're inappropriately playing politics again.

We need to bring them to heel. Their job is public service, not political favoritism.

@rbreich Despite what the Dem legal pundits have said, I've thought from the beginning of this that SCOTUS would give the president a significant amount of immunity, maybe 100%. It will be the official end point of democracy IMO. We have lost increasingly more ground bc no one wanted to rein in corruption (inc most Dems). Now the plane is being landed for an authoritarian government.

That means SCOTUS will actually say POTUS is, at least, partially immune from criminal prosecution.

A decision so obviously contrary to the principles of our Founding Fathers confirms that SCOTUS is politically corrupt.

@rbreich Ask Chief Justice Roberts, but my guess is that there is a stuck court with 4-3 fro immunity and two (Roberts and Gorsuch) leaning left to deny immunity because they can't resolve issue of immunity for Trump means immunity for all presidents (past, current, future) or resolve how to just give immunity to Trump for this case but not Trump for other cases and for other presidents. They know giving Trump immunity opens door for democrats to have grounds to "fix" SCOTUS.

Just a thought, or, likely, I'm so wrong...
