Unfortunately I was impacted by the recent layoffs that happened last week at #VRChat. I have many thoughts about my experience but it can summarized as one of…

also tagging in my old contacts from twitter in case y'all happen to have any leads. Got laid off after finally breaking into the security leadership space and trying to find a good fit in Ireland if possible. Would appreciate any boosts if ya canπŸ’œ

Remote Work

I know a lot of people who are looking for work these days, so I’ve collected a bunch of links that might help folks.

@Taffer much appreciated πŸ™. I'll check them out ^^

Thank you to everyone who originally boosted this post πŸ’œ. I am now opening up my search to remote positions in the US for either leadership or IC roles.

For new folks I have been doing security for nearly 15 years in a variety of roles. Most recently in security/risk leadership.

@starchild Hoping your change of employment is a move up. I've seen folks on here using #FediHire #FediHired #getfedihired to call attention to their posts.
@CuriousMatter ty! I really appreciate it πŸ™
@starchild damn, that sucks. I had applied to them a few times, but maybe just glad I never heard anything back from them now. I hope you find a good place to land soon!

@Tillwoofie Yeah the hiring process was pretty bumpy/rough for me too. It definitely sounds like you probably dodged a bullet TBH.

And thank you I hope so too. I feel like it's gonna be hard to find a place that was as furry friendly as VRC was. I really liked being able to attend meetings in my avatar q.q

@starchild that would be pretty badass to just pop into a meeting in your avatar xD second best is just camera off wearing a kigu!
@starchild wishing you to find something good!
@spokeek ty!! It's been a stressful time, but I'm feeling hopeful for finding a good fit somewhere.πŸ˜…
@starchild did I already send this to you, I’m losing track- https://taffer.ca/posts/2023/remote/

@Taffer yep, you did! but I appreciate the info/resources all the same ^^
@starchild i boosted it. i wish you good luck! also i really do think VRC's kinda fell off. like, the EAC did nothing to stop the crasher bots, and also it's still ridiculously easy to steal someone's avatar. also the idea of removing a community's access to custom accessibility clients was kinda dumb, and put many people off playing VRC after that happened.
@starchild that's just my opinion on VRC, but it's a valid one.
@starchild also i feel like as a multiplayer game where you sit around and talk, and most custom clients are for good rather than evil, anti cheat isn't really worth it. also it's kinda stupid game design that VRC can have clients connect to it that causes the game to remotely crash.

@cardboard ty for the boost. πŸ™

As far as EAC I can't say too much. I hired in shortly after it first got released on the platform and so wasn't involved in the decision process to deploy it.

That in mind my team _was_ in charge of maintaining it. Without breaking NDA, I can say that the reasoning was very solid from an infosec perspective, but I was hoping in the long term to move the platform away from a kernel based anti-cheat.

Sadly it's no longer my call to make it happen.

@starchild no problem! also your opinion is fair enough, and i'll accept it.

@starchild Hey, I have you on linkedin :) (we overlapped same employer by about a week)

Boosted. Will keep an eye out for anything for you too.

@SiteRelEnby much appreciated πŸ’œ
