@mykhaylo Ah yes, all the areas that contain a lot of oil and natural gas, according to relatively recent surveys, but which Ukraine wasn't able to exploit by itself yet. Ukraine partly depended on importing Russian oil and gas, which made Russia quite a lot of rubles.
Of course this was never about ethnic Russians being discriminated by Ukraine. There are probably also valuable natural resources available in other countries with "discriminated ethnic Russians"... š

If someone said at any point in the last decade that Russia wanted peace, it should have been obvious to anyone they're either trolling or missed the news where Russia was the aggressor in Crimea and later the rest of Ukraine, and one of these two is very unlikely if they're bringing up a war of Russia's, right?

People may claim Russia wants peace, but a peace offer has been on the table since the start of the war: Russia to withdraw from Ukraine to its internationally recognised borders. War over, peace achieved.
Half a million Russian lives alone have been thrown away in the name of refusing that peace deal.
It's hard to make the case that a Russian peace offer that demands surrender of territory is more legitimate than a Ukrainian one that doesn't.
If anything, Ukraine should be awarded annexation of Russian territories after this is over.

Russia has also never abided by any peace settlement. Ever.
Peace negotiations are just a pretext for a brief respite, then the military ventures resume. It's a ploy.
Ukraine will have peace when:
1. It's regained every inch of its territory including Crimea & Sevastopol. It's time that naval base ended.
2. Reparations to rebuild & secure Ukraine.
3. Putin's regime stands trial for war crimes
4. Putin's enablers in the West face consequences.
The collaborators in America's last fascist movement got consequences.
Less than ideal consequences, but consequences nevertheless.

Ukraine gave up its nukes in exchange for an agreement that Russia would respect their sovereignty and borders.
Any peace agreement that doesn't respect this prior treaty is proof, in and of itself, that Russia will not honor the agreement.
