@davidzipper @990000 I’m on a bulletin board for Subaru Gen 5 Subaru Impreza owners. Occasionally people discuss how to make their cars louder. I have so far refrained on how I plan on taking out their cars with RPGs if they drive down my street.
@paulc @davidzipper @990000 Hmm... So you like the sound of rocket exhaust..? 😏
@paulc @davidzipper @990000 RPGs are overkill. Anything chambered in .50 BMG would be cheaper, more reliable, give you more chances, and would be less of a legal headache in the US.

@davidzipper I wonder if this extends to the kids who tune their mopeds here...noisy, stinky, etc.

But is it really different than the kids with illegally modified ebikes? Who knows.

But really what I care about is the harms the impart on others. Noise and pollution harm me...our bike paths are wide enough that a few kids on illegal fatbike ebikes aren't much of a problem. Maybe not the case everywhere.

@danbrotherston @davidzipper counterpoint: you can’t hear the illegally modified ebike from half a mile down the road

@davidzipper I always just assumed they had tiny dicks but this seems to make waaay more sense.
@K4mpfie @davidzipper I would guess both are true, although I would rephrase
"tiny dick" as low self-esteem.
@Pepperbike @davidzipper jeah but there are no hand gestures for that. IYKWIM 🀏 🀭
@K4mpfie
please don't disparage a group of people based on their innate bodily dimensions. i understand the sense of your remarks is that people who are preoccupied with penis size tend to be beholden to toxic masculinity. however that nuance is lost with coarse-grained statements literally inferring penis size from antisocial behavior, and thus your comment only serves to reinforce the same toxic masculinity.
@davidzipper Guy across the street (too close to me) has a large truck with a very loud exhaust system. I've felt for quite a while that there is something wrong with him, because the truck is not only too loud but also, thanks to his "modifications," downright ugly. He's got a screw loose somewhere and this study seems to confirm that. PS He used to own a Firebird that was even louder, but finally sold it.
@davidzipper studies have proven. People who ride bikes are cyclepaths.😲
@davidzipper When I was a teenager I put a glass pack muffler on my Rambler station wagon not because it was loud but because it was funny to see a family station wagon going down the street sounding like a racing car. Hopefully that was not psychotic.
@azphilosopher @davidzipper Teenagers are clinically insane. Most of us get over it 😊
(Also, I'm sympathetic because I have the same sense of humour and would have appreciated this at the time πŸ˜„)
@azphilosopher @davidzipper if it wouldn't cost money I'd be half tempted to try such a thing for a trip or two with my hybrid SUV for the same reason. The absurdity of a boring family runabout screaming like a funnycar is amusing to me.
@davidzipper Needs a crackdown. Nobody should be allowed to modify vehicle exhaust. If you like hearing something get a recording and some headphones.
@davidzipper
I even become psychotic just having to listen to it.
@davidzipper The straight through exhaust of the mini van, makes you think it can go faster than it can, who cares, cars are for squares. (Mike Taylor c1970)

@davidzipper
When I owned a muscle car, I only wanted loud exhaust when I really stepped on it.

But lately it seems like so many cars (I'm looking at you Dodge) sound like they're trying to make the back straight at Daytona when they're just going 12 miles an hour. Why?

And there is a huge upturn in open exhaust cars screaming down the road, that's just not acceptable on public roads. Go to a race track.

@bigheadtales @davidzipper I feel like they do it on purpose.

Just drive around in 1st at 5000 RPM just to be as loud as humanly possible.

@davidzipper In other news, the sky is blue.
It is the same for all those who drive giant trucks when the most they will haul is some groceries. All these people driving mid-life-crisis vehicles trying to be cool when no one is cool.

@davidzipper what if I'm a psycho that doesn't like loud exhausts? /hj
@davidzipper What’s the source? University of the Bloody Obvious? 😁
@davidzipper Didn't need a study for that.
