I had given up on pleading for more alt-text but I'll try again!

Please add alt-text to your photos/pictures it only takes a minute and does not have to be fancy. My policy is not to boost images without alt-text and I am not the only one.

This is one of the cultural things I like about Mastodon, the inclusiveness. Please don't ruin it.

(Edit) was sent a guide for alt-text

@Dianora Even though, I try to add as much alt-text as possible, I feel like the quality of my alt-texts are the worst. Any tips, suggestions or a guide which can improve my alt-texts ?

@SuitedUpDev @Dianora I've found this page from Perkins School for the Blind has some good basic tips. The graphic at the bottom lives rent free in my head.

@jessamyn @SuitedUpDev Thank you! I will bookmark it this time.
@jessamyn @SuitedUpDev @Dianora thank you, this is incredibly useful.
@jessamyn @SuitedUpDev @Dianora yeah, after reading this I found it to be complete, not just tips. Best guide I have read so far.
@Dianora Getting there! It's surprisingly easy to do, just have to kill the habit of "posting quickly when there's no reason to post quickly"
@Dianora I am curious to know if there are any best practices for what would most helpful in alt text? I have my mastodon client set to prevent posting images without alt text, but I always wonder if what i include is helpful.
@jared I once saw such a guide by someone who was actually blind so I don't feel it is my place to say. I do know that something other than. "bird" is better if "it's a red bird sitting on a bird feeder." I was actually hoping someone blind would pipe up! ;)
@Dianora ah good. That sounds like pretty much what I do.
@jared Oh what a lovely cat! I see they are ... upset at something. ;) Love cats. ;)
@Dianora while he was a big fan of nibbling, and great at emoting, yawning was where I captured what his emotions looked like. Light reflected so wonderfully off his fur that I could easily get great action shots without significant blurring. Cats look so strange in the middle of a yawn
@jared Ah ha! yes, I've seen that! Beautiful kitty. :)

@Dianora FYI, hyphens don't work in hashtags

Adding #AltText here, in this reply, in the hope that more folks who follow that tag will find your post 😊

@ahimsa_pdx duh I had forgotten they did not work. (I swear, I did know!) I'll edit my post thank you. That's yet another thing I like about Mastodon!
@ahimsa_pdx P.S. I blame the gardening it's making me tired etc!
@Dianora
Please tell me if a description of the photo is adequate. Thanks
@Dianora
There is bot you can mutually follow and it will remind you should you forget alt-text. Do you want it??
