With #ads & #spyware of #Windows & #Microsoft #AI in new PCs, a LOT of people are moving to #Linux already. The pace has increased lately. The problem is that I foresee someone like #nvidia to build a new linux distro for the masses, and that will end up with the same spyware services & local training AI off load. The commercialization is inevitable if the transition becomes too popular. I hope instead people prefer the traditional distro options.

@eugenialoli A lot of people? I don't see anyone eager to switch anytime soon, so there's no need to worry.
@narunya Not true. The pace has increased in the last 6 months considerably. There's a lot of new users coming over, the forums (lemmy, reddit) are posts of new users asking basic questions, and there's also a lot of new youtube videos of new users too. We're not talking here about millions, but certainly a 2x migration compared to last year.

@eugenialoli I do hope what you're saying is true.

However, in my experience, most people don't check Windows news, and those who do probably don't care anyway. The users you see on the forums and videos are a small but vocal minority of people.

Perhaps I'm just pessimistic by nature. I don't know.

@narunya I never claimed that Linux is going to replace Windows. But it has the capability of achieving 10% of marketshare by the end of this decade (currently at 4%).
