@fhardwig @oliverlinke @typographische @typolis I have to get myself there one day, if only to see the work of Karl Blaschke.

You have tu hurry up. So many Artworks disappeared 🫥

@typolis @fhardwig @oliverlinke @typographische Yes, I can only imagine. Has the city been approached about granting any of them some kind of listed/protected status?

I'm not familiar with how things like that work in Germany, but collectively they are surely of national, if not international, significance.

@blag @typolis @fhardwig @oliverlinke It is possible to have a building listed in order to save specific features such as a facade sign. But it requires careful preparation and a convincing justification – a lot of work. The historical and cultural value must also be publicly supported – which is in my opinion the most difficult part (recently, all the signage was removed from a historical building in the city centre as part of a renovation).
And even if it is, accidents happen :-(
@typographische @blag @typolis @fhardwig @oliverlinke An idea for a BLAG article: What are the laws for sign preservation in major municipalities, and which municipalities are best at preserving historical signs?

@typographica @typographische @typolis @fhardwig @oliverlinke So much of this is hyper-local, eg London, where different boroughs have different approaches and, in parallel, their equivalent of sign ordinances.

I can think of a few places off the top of my head, and will see how something could be formalised to gather/present data.
