Please boost. I wanted to see just how much Star Trek was a part of the fediverse, so I left this very general on purpose. Do you like Star Trek at all? Note, "no" also includes "haven't seen it". #Poll #Polls #StarTrek

I'm honestly fascinated by the numbers this poll is doing. Thanks everyone who's voted and shared so far, and to those who will the rest of the week!
I wonder if I can make 5 digits in the roughly 2 days I have left? Well even if I don't, this is the most successful poll I've ever had, and possibly even ever seen here, so thank you all!
@Fragglemuppet Lower Decks is, IMHO, some of the best Trek on TV right now. Unfortunately it's only got a season left, as I understand it.
@pjohanneson @Fragglemuppet Ah! I forgot about that one. Never got into the live-action stuff - partly because there's just so much of it - but Lower Decks is just my kind of thing and much more approachable.
@Fragglemuppet
I said no, but I did like it for a long time, I've done my time. 😀

@Fragglemuppet I haven't watched any NuTrek (anything after Voyager) for a combination of factors including just ... not having network TV during the Enterprise years and really, really being turned off by the turn taken by recent movies.

But TOS and TNG in particular remain very dear to me. The TNG theme song instantly makes me crave tuna casserole. It was my parents' date night ritual; we weren't going to act up for the babysitter while TNG was on. (We were good kids in general, but still.)

@pelielios I think you'd enjoy some of the new series, they are not like the recent movies. I'd recommend Lower Decks, it's very funny and has a lot of TNG/DS9/VOY insider jokes.

@jollysea Oh I've heard good things and it's all definitely on my "get around to" list.

Just Abrams and the Bermans, deep cringe-shudders. It's hard for me to overcome that no matter how much good I hear about the latest incarnations and I always seem to find something else to do with my time.

@pelielios @jollysea same with me, I wasn't a fan of the new movies. I haven't watched the new series because I haven't subscribed to Paramount+, but will eventually. I've heard a lot of good things about many of the new series.
@Fragglemuppet In my case, I don't like Star Trek because I like Star Wars more. And if I don't rep SW, imma get force choked through the internet.
@Fragglemuppet Star Trek is banned in our house. My stepfather forced us to watch it every night. He hogged up the TV so much,we had to go across town to grandma's to watch the Lakers or the Dodgers game. He said Star Trek was "educational",while Jeopardy,Happy Days and sports were "stupid". That was almost 50 years ago. My brother and I haven't watched Star Trek since.
@Fragglemuppet Have been binging Voyager lately, including today. 🖖
@Fragglemuppet
"At all"?!
It's definitely better than some other things I could think of, but I've never been a fan.
@Fragglemuppet Voted yes as someone who has seen some of the original and The Next Generation. Saw the pilot of the Pike one with Rebecca Romijn, quite liked that, the first four films (IV at the cinema), and enjoyed some fan-made productions. So that definitely qualifies me in the first option!
@Fragglemuppet I have a magnet-backed Discovery delta on my favorite jacket, so I'd say yes is an understatement.
@Fragglemuppet Casual fan, but Worf getting hit with the blue barrel is one of the best scenes that's ever aired

@Fragglemuppet

I love some Trek series more than others but definitely consider myself a fan

Lower Decks & the newest, Strange New Worlds, are both excellent

SNW might end up being even better than TNG, which is saying A LOT 👀

Can't afford the stream but our Library system has both new shows on disk

@Fragglemuppet does Lower Decks count because that's the only Star Trek i've watched on purpose

@Fragglemuppet

Strange New Worlds is quite good. It's one of the few newer ones I wish they made more episodes of

@Fragglemuppet hell yes. picard was a better father figure than my actual one.

@Fragglemuppet

Star "Trek"? Is that like knock-off Star Wars? /joke

@Fragglemuppet I have a Spock tattoo, & I named my twins Kirk & Scott.
@Fragglemuppet there’s a Trek for everyone now. I haven’t kept up and i do rewatch what i liked growing up and all wide release theater films now and then. I’ll get to the newer stuff one day.
@Fragglemuppet i tried watching it. Several different series. I wish I would like it. I think I should like it. But I just don’t. Doesn’t matter how often I try.
@Fragglemuppet
Yes of course. I am very much into Voyager, Deep space nine and Next Generation. I like the movies, too. Especially the First 6 or 7 movies with the "old" Crews. And I like the Original Serien but Not as much as the others. 🙂
@Fragglemuppet I voted No to mean Haven't Seen It.
@Fragglemuppet By yes I mean TOS, TNG, and VOY. Never could get into DS9 and the new stuff is just bad, imho.
@Fragglemuppet 17% of people are unbalanced.
@Fragglemuppet Plot the correlation against age... 😉
@chiasm I'd say there's a Trek for every generation, no?
@Fragglemuppet I grew up during the first Star Trek years, never really watched it or got into it. For no particular reason about three months ago, I decided to start watching, and have now binge watched my way into The New Generation series 5. Plan to keep going to the end.
@Fragglemuppet can u also put out a poll thats asking if people prefer trek or star wars, in my college class (IT) I was quite surprised that I was the only person to prefer trek over star wars ! (Although this was before the new movies lol)
@Fragglemuppet 4k people is frankly, a really good sample size as fedi polls go! wow
@alexandria And just think, this is only day 1! I wonder what it'll look like by day 7!
@Fragglemuppet love that old Ferengi greeting, - live long and profit
@Fragglemuppet I wouldn't call myself a fan (the only series that has kept me actively coming back for more has been Lower Decks) but I'll watch it if it's on, I definitely don't dislike it!
@Fragglemuppet It seems like with any emergent technology that's even slightly geeky, the Trekkies are always in there first. See also: webrings, shareware
@Fragglemuppet I'm honestly conflicted as I love Star Trek but can't stand the Kurtzman reimaginations...

@Fragglemuppet @ShadowJonathan interesting one! I’ve tried to get into it a few times but find it borderline unwatchable. However I do enjoy me some meta! Especially @jessiegender’s long ones like the one on Sex in Star Trek – endlessly fascinating (I hope she’ll do another one, I think she said she had another one planned ages ago).

Also Lower Decks is very fun, but it’s very different from the main fare.

@Fragglemuppet @ShadowJonathan It is, of course, also a very big part of nerd culture (or whatever) and I do enjoy the many references other media throws in (the ones I catch, at least). The show(s) itself though, nope, doesn’t do anything for me 🤷🏻‍♀️
@Fragglemuppet what is this ‘star trek’ you speak of? #clueless
@Fragglemuppet I don't like the original series or the new ones, but yes to voyager, tng, ds9.
@Fragglemuppet I love it all. I've been a Trekkie since I was a kid.
