Even if you don't upgrade to the new #Sonos app, or upgrade your speaker firmware, the #accessibility of the old app has now been degraded. Browsing Apple Music this morning, and all of the items are images without alt-text. FYI @podcast
@fastfinge @podcast Yep, because they are removing the server side info, more people need to understand that a lot of what an app is showing you is not actually installed on device. If you rapidly cycle many apps on slow internet you'll lose many things like labels, alt text, etc.
@fastfinge So Sonos has essentially pulled #recycleMode on prior existing accessibility, and this time (unlike the actual #recycleMode scandal, there was no 21 day countdown until sudden removal of functionality. Oh, and of course, #recycleMode broke things for everyone, while this breaks things for not enough people to get a rise out of mainstream technology review sites.
@fastfinge Thanks I see that. This was always a possibility given all that’s going on server-side, but very disappointing. Did you have to authorise your Apple Music again in the old app?
@podcast @fastfinge I guess the workaround for that is airplay. Really irritating though
@silverleaf57 @podcast Yes. Note that if you have Windows, you can install the Apple Music app from the Microsoft Store, and airplay will work from that if you don't wish to use your phone and don't have a mac.
@silverleaf57 @fastfinge AirPlay doesn't give you Atmos though, so an inferior experience.
@podcast @silverleaf57 Oh, I didn't know that. I guess I'll have to resort to my Apple TV.
@podcast No, I didn't. When I gave a Sonos voice command to resume playing my apple music station, it made the error sound. I went into the app to investigate, and when I clicked apple music on the browse tab, I found all of the unlabeled images. Once you find the station you want, however, it will still show up with a label under your recently played items and in your favourites. So if you have a few favourite items you listen to on apple music as I do, this is a way to work around it for now. I also received a reply to my email that I sent to [email protected] last Thursday, and they invited me to join the beta program. I have done so, but have not gotten access to the beta app yet. I'm happy to keep you posted.
