Again, "Trump is worse!" Then blocked🤷🏿‍♂️

https://mastodon.stevesworld.co/@steter/112402055418029413

Gotta respect the doubling down! Replying to me posting some dude saying "Trump is worse!" then blocking me, with saying "Trump is worse!" then blocking me too! The commitment to the bit is impressive!

Listen, you can get as mad as you want. You can call Black folk criticizing Biden "Bitching" if you want. We're still going to do it.

The CDC under Biden dropped the Covid isolation period from "5 days" to "vibes days." Not Trump.

👴🏻 You don't understand what's at stake in this election! It's too important! You should be willing to do whatever it takes to make sure that Biden wins! Whatever! It! Takes!

👨🏿 If you apply that logic to yourself, that means that you shouldn't go around online telling Black folk "Trump is worse so shut up!" You should at least pretend to listen to Black folk.

👴🏻 No! The rules don't apply to me! They apply to you! Just shut up, vote for Biden, and don't complain about anything like I told you to!

@mekkaokereke Trump is worse. There is no positive alternative to Biden. Another four year term for Trump is a deathblow to this country for everyone.

@dondasch

Thanks for clearing that up for me!

Now that I know that Trump is worse, how do you suggest I change my behaviour? What can I do better?

@mekkaokereke @dondasch

Just keep showing your gratitude each time someone bluesplains how ignoring a genocide is good for democracy!

@JeffreySmith @mekkaokereke @dondasch

I genuinely can't tell when anyone is or isn't being satirical anymore. So this may be a wild overreaction to your comment. But I really want to say this somewhere.

Surely you get how this kind of generalization both misses the point and helps no one. Right?

I'm sure there are some of the "Biden forever!" crew who genuinely don't give a fuck about what's happening in Gaza, but I imagine quite a lot do. I sure as hell do. There are lots of real and significant reasons to object to Biden and I share many of them.

But what I _don't_ get is how people can look at project 2025 and not see something we've never seen before, something totally unique to this election cycle, a real and direct existential threat to the existence of America. We're not picking a candidate. We're voting for or against _revolution_.

And I'm sure there are some people reacting this way that are doing so because they really do want revolution. If someone is voting for revolution because of Gaza, I do not understand how they value life. Revolutions do not typically proceed peacefully, and this one will most certainly not.

@mekkaokereke How is it on me to change the behavior of a fellow human being ? I'm no fan of Biden on many things, but not voting for Biden is equivalent to giving Trump a free run at the presidency again. I don't want that. You shouldn't want that. If Biden does get re-elected, then he absolutely should listen to what's being suggested and not ignore it.

@dondasch

Again, thanks for clearing that up for me! Your clear and persuasive points made over short form text on the internet have proven more effective than listening to Black folk! At this point you can consider my vote locked in for Biden! 👍🏿

This was surely more effective than listening to Black folk, or talking to any of the racist white people that will vote for Trump, or than pressuring Biden! Bravo!

Now, there are only about 20 million more Black men to reach! Godspeed!

@mekkaokereke Wow. It's amazing that you, as a "creator of worlds" at Google, are in fact such a sarcastic asshole. Good luck.

@dondasch

🤷🏿‍♂️ From the very first post in this thread:
"Listen, you can get as mad as you want. You can call Black folk criticizing Biden "Bitching" if you want. We're still going to do it."

People like you are so predictable. You don't listen to, or even pretend to care about Black folk. You just yell "Trump is worse!" And then when you don't get your way, you swear at us, or say, "You deserve the genocide that's coming to you!" or block us.

Ask yourself why you're really so angry.

@dondasch

Y'all know that I post about criminal justice reform, a lot. And I have law enforcement officers and police chiefs that follow me online.

I get sworn at, yelled at, and blocked, more by "white liberals that aren't in community with any Black people," than by cops.🙂🙃

Why do y'all think that is? ELI5.

Cops don't even cry to me about, "Don't criticize law enforcement! Wah!" Occasionally one'll say, "Sure that happens, but you're wrong about why."

But I get "Don't criticize Biden!"🤷🏿‍♂️

@mekkaokereke "People like you are so predictable". What a boring and often heard line. You have no idea who I fight for on a regular basis, nor who I pray for regularly. All you want to do is make generalities and claim what you want. It's disappointing, and I've no time for you. Keep being mad and angry, if that's what fuels you. It doesn't do it for me.

@dondasch

I don't care who you think you fight for on a regular basis.

I care how you came at me in my mentions before calling me an asshole. You came at me exactly like the other people I referred to in the original post.

(🤔Re: people saying "you're so predictable!" to you being an often heard line... does... does this happen to you a lot? What are you doing when you hear this? Is it Black people or everyone? I have so many questions!)

@mekkaokereke It really is amazing, and disappointing, but not surprising, how many people don't realize that they could just... not?

@RufusJCooter @mekkaokereke

Two bowls of shit were shoved in front of us, so clearly we must painstakingly measure which one is less full, and then eat it. Binary choices are so compelling, no other options can possibly exist.

At NO POINT is anyone to consider maybe just... NOT eating shit.

@violetmadder @RufusJCooter @mekkaokereke You can not vote, but the bowls will be dumped over your head anyway.

The most interesting question in USA politics is, what comes after the USA?

@violetmadder @RufusJCooter @mekkaokereke " Or as Elmer Schattschneider put it: “the definition of the alternatives is the supreme instrument of power."

@violetmadder @RufusJCooter @mekkaokereke Reminds me of Douglas Adams' take on all of this.

I wish he was still with us. 😔

@violetmadder @RufusJCooter @mekkaokereke

In fairness, not eating shit isn't on the menu, because government is inherently nonconsensual.

@mekkaokereke Given that Trump is awful and people may not vote for Biden over Gaza, shouldn't they, following their own logic, immediately start trying to convince Biden to do better on Gaza so Trump isn't elected? Maybe bother their local congressperson instead of random people on the internet?

@mekkaokereke vote like a black woman… unless she’s not voting for your candidate! listen to your jewish friends… unless they tell you they don’t want your war! oh, and if biden loses and trump’s boot comes down on their necks? they’re just getting what they deserved for not supporting biden more! FAFO!

the transactional nature of a lot of liberal allyship is really gross.

@mekkaokereke I wonder if people realize that blind, unquestioning adoration of a person is what got us Trump in the first place.

Yes, Trump is worse. Trump is a direct threat to the democratic foundations that most of the the US has enjoyed for the last few hundred years. That doesn’t mean Biden can’t have flaws, nor does it mean we shouldn’t talk about them, or talk about other existing problems that need solutions.

I thought Mastodon was where people came when they wanted real discussions, not blind, frothy mobs.

On the upside, you seem to be doing a decent job of having the annoying folks self-select out of your audience, which will probably improve your experience that the experience of your other followers overall.

@mekkaokereke Hang on there friend, comparing the Biden CDC to the Trump CDC misses an important point, which is that it was in 2018 under Trump that the US office responsible for pandemic preparedness was disbanded, leaving us at much higher risk levels for exactly the COVID-19 scenario, _and_ Trump recently said he'd repeat the same mistake if he's re-elected.

Whatever you think of Biden, Trump is actually worse, in all the ways. A selfish billionaire would disagree, I guess.

@fixiemama

"Trump is worse!" But without the block this time! I appreciate the change up!🙂

Things the Trump CDC did in 2018, don't excuse things the Biden CDC did in 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024.

You can't excuse whatever depraved thing Biden might do, by citing some slightly more depraved thing that Trump did.

👩🏽Officer! Help me! That serial killer just attacked me with an axe!

👮🏿‍♂️Meh. Dahmer's worse.

👩🏽Um... What?!

👮🏿‍♂️Dahmer's worse. Jeffrey Dahmer. He would've tried to eat you.

@mekkaokereke Who said anything about excusing Biden.

I'm talking about using comparisons that are fair.

But considering nothing Trump does is in good faith, and he's in obvious cognitive decline, I'm not sure why the one you outline is the conversation anyone would bother with.

@mekkaokereke LOL I didn't even go into the link you posted b4 but now I have and you know what? Anyone who would compare the presidential terms by number of people who died from COVID is not a serious actor. You can't be serious. I'm no data scientist but why would we compare a data set from 10-11mos. data collection with another that was years of data? Esp. when we're looking at the spread of a disease which increases exponentially with time? Relevant metric: what was done to halt the spread.

@fixiemama

Again, the CDC under Trump in Jan 2021, did more to stop the spread than the CDC under Biden.

Biden literally rolled back preventative measures, sometimes in the middle of a Covid spike.

https://hachyderm.io/@mekkaokereke/112402806394110535

If Trump had won in 2020, and then his CDC had rolled these Covid restrictions back, ended isolation periods, and watched the cumulative death toll cross a million, and he had said, "See! I fixed the economy!" I think that people's reaction would be different.

mekka okereke :verified: (@[email protected])

@[email protected] Again, here are some comparisons that I think are fair: * More people died of Covid under the Biden CDC than the Trump CDC * Covid isolation mandates were more effective under Trump (5 days), and almost negligently ineffective under Biden (based on vibes and feels). * After Covid, the economy took a nose dive under Trump, in large part due to Covid restrictions. Biden chose to fix the economy, in large part by rolling back many of those Covid restrictions.

@mekkaokereke What a jerk. I am going to block them too.

@mekkaokereke people refuse to acknowledge that the lesser evil is still evil and it's so fucking harmful

Has Biden done good? Sure, some. But he's been terrible on a huge number of counts and people shouldn't be shouted down or vilified for pointing them out.

@mekkaokereke I am surprised to discover that I cannot see the profile that posted at you. Maybe Hachyderm blocked them and/or their server? (I’ve been impressed with how well Hachyderm is run and wonder if this is an instance of Hachyderm taking care of things.)
