Caterina Barbieri is a composer and producer who creates electronic music with methodically laid out layers and an experimental edge. She works primarily with analog synthesizers (though her first instrument is the classical guitar), which she uses to explore tone and texture while often projecting a level of warmth and brightness. Minimalism is a big factor in her approach, so repetitive patterns are a part of her sound, and a drone type quality creeps into her music at times. That said, she also has room for occasional pop idioms here and there. Her classical background may not be up front and center in her work, but it does make its presence felt at the surface, at least, in some of her instrumentation and choral arrangements.
