In the fast-paced world of generative AI, staying ahead means moving swiftly and smartly. ⏩ That's why we've embraced Gradio, the low-code prototyping toolkit from Hugging Face, as our go-to for bringing new ideas to life. https://mzl.la/4auVulc

@Natanox It is just a set of components for Figma, to create mockup that looks like Gradio UI. There is no GAI and there is nothing wrong with that.
@[email protected] fix this now and remove the ai or else

@Natanox

Mozilla is wasting time on AI?!?

Wait it's just them making a bunch of UI mockup templates for the Gradio UI controls that people use for hacky AI demos.

Wait Mozilla is wasting time *mocking up* hacky UIs done in Gradio!?!?!

@Natanox @DrGoldfire you’re not even using enshittification properly in this context lol. mozilla has existed for like 2 decades, they’re not in need of AI to make money, they haven’t done literally anything to their flagship product with AI, and they don’t have any obligation to shareholders to start making money.

throwing the word enshittification around when it doesn’t fit just makes it meaningless when it should actually be used, like with reddit. hope this helps 🥰

@lolrepeatlol I worked at Mozilla for the better part of a decade, but please, continue to explain to me how Mozilla works.
@DrGoldfire i’m aware you have worked there for a long time & appreciate ur input. i know you reposted this but i wasn’t intending to reply to you, i meant for it to go to the original poster — my apologies if it did go to you instead. that being said i still fully believe this post is pretty ridiculous, it doesn’t match the intended usage of the word at all & the criticism doesn’t even make sense.
@lolrepeatlol I mean, I obviously reposted it for a reason. There are also good reasons why I left Mozilla. The two are not unrelated. Please accept that my conception of what is going on there might possibly be more correct than whatever picture you've built in your head.
@DrGoldfire right & i fully get that. mozilla is certainly not without its problems especially amidst a lack of vision, half-assed and killed products, and the new interim ceo. i’m not saying they’re faultless, i’m just pointing out that claiming this is an example of enshittification doesn’t check out in this context. if you disagree, then that’s fine, we can agree to disagree.
@DrGoldfire unrelated but if you're not there anymore, and they're adding AI to the browser I've been installing on people's computers for years, time for me to stop trying to find a way to work there. Another one bites the dust
@Natanox @baldur Quality is fine but I’m personally hoping for a non-WebKit iOS Firefox.

@Natanox At least it's... open source? :)

I certainly don't disagree. I'd love it if they were all Firefox, all the time.

However I also don't know how they're supposed to generate enough $$$$ to keep the lights on while maintaining that laser focus.

Capitalism and free software make for uneasy bedfellows.

@feoh @Natanox Guess I'll be switching back over to Waterfox again, or probably get LibreWolf or something.

Or if Midori gets better extension support, I'll switch to that! It at least uses Gecko so it breaks the Chrome monopoly!

@LambdaCalculus @Natanox Maybe not necessary quite yet? The thing they're flogging is a UI design prototyping tool.

@LambdaCalculus @Natanox I feel like I need to explain myself just a wee bit.

#Mozilla and #Firefox for all their foibles are at least fighting the good fight.

They send people to the standards bodies. They give voice to our desired for an open web ecosystem that's not totally controlled by profit motive crazed MegaCorps, and they represent a real alternative that's safe and actually a good idea to recommend to anyone, even your grandparents :)

To me, it's super good to keep them honest and call them out when they do things we think are dumb, but it's not clear abandoning them is in our best interests either. At least not yet :)

@feoh @LambdaCalculus @Natanox I think back to the days I worked for the FSF and was frustrated by the lack actually engaging on means of production. Yes open source is a challenge on its own, but do we treat it like a library and everyone should have access to it? In which case we need to demand the state to maintain that like a public library. Or do we organize democratic decision making into a viable economic approach, coops come to mind...
@feoh @LambdaCalculus @Natanox ... But instead the option is a middle ground that is both benefit from tax donations from corporations and not really putting any demands on the state at least in the US context which is disappointing cause even a non-profit can support legislation but they chose not to.
@feoh @LambdaCalculus @Natanox Which in all of this is to say, I would prefer Mozilla to be a member based organization elects leaders regionally etc to put pressure on local municipalities, states, etc..
