I've been off #running for 10 months with #achilles tendinosis. I've been doing exercises under the supervision of a physio. Now I've just started a #couchto5k program. The idea is to build up again gradually, starting as if I'm a beginner. Fingers crossed.

@simoncarswell

A more seasoned running asked me if I was doing the stairs heel drop exercise when I said I was having achilles issues. I didn't even know it was a thing, but I do them pretty well every day - around 60 of them and no issues since.

Achilles Tendonitis Exercises - Hakan Alfredson’s heel drop protocol

Achilles tendonitis exercises which have proved most successful for chronic Achilles pain - are the Hakan Alfredson's heel drop protocol.

@LiamEgan @simoncarswell I too do these before nearly every run.

@WTL @simoncarswell

It is the only exercise I make sure I do, but as I get older, I am adding the tennis ball wax-on,wax-off against the wall exercise into the mix. I like my physio, but I really don't want to have to go back to see her 🤣

@WTL @LiamEgan @simoncarswell I was too until my team of people treating me said it was best to do it at night. The idea was that it's stretching (damaging) fibers just before a run. However, it's much harder to remember to do them at night.
I used to use the concrete parking stops to stretch the calf out.

@dominicvfx @WTL @simoncarswell

I'm just happy to be able to get out and run and for me the stretching thing has to be an extension of my running time - either before or after. Trying to do it in the evening would guarantee that I would forget it and get injured. I'm slowly coming to the realization that I will never get any faster, just slower 😄

@LiamEgan @dominicvfx @simoncarswell I've never been a fast runner, and while I am aware of my pace, I don't particularly worry about it, so long as I enjoy the run.

If you're enjoying the run, does it matter how fast you are? 🤔

@WTL @dominicvfx @simoncarswell

I was going to reference you as one of the "fast" runners that I aspire to emulate, but my speeds are going in the wrong direction and you are the person that I will never catch and I'm okay with that.

I always enjoy your posts, because you just go out and do it on days when I say "nope, not gonna happen" 😄

People that enjoy running are not easily understood, because who the hell enjoys running 🤣

@LiamEgan @dominicvfx @simoncarswell I'm glad you enjoy the posts.

If you'd told me six years ago I’d be running the frequency and distances that I have, I would have laughed at you. Life’s an interesting journey.

@simoncarswell Welcome back to running.🎉 Remember to be patient with yourself.

@simoncarswell 200 days for me so far. I think, think, my knee is finally starting to heal. I had two procedures done on my knee a couple of months after the silver rush 50. I did not expect to be out this long.

So, I'll be in the same situation. Starting from zero, but only my body. My mind remembers I can run far, at least I hope it does.

I do little test runs up my steepish driveway. Supper low impact, and a great way to gauge how it feels.

I am really interested in the data I will get from a real test run. How much fitness is really lost?

Good luck with your return to greatness
