@alphasixtyfive @hankarus @nixCraft
200 million computers running windows will be abandoned by Microsoft, no support, no new malware removal, no virus help, abandonware.
If you own a Windows 10 machine, you can throw it onto the far too big tech junkpile, or put linux on it, ffs, please.
Or give a thousand away to schools or free computer activists in cities everywhere.
Any Windows 10 machine can be saved, reborn, made ACTUALLY USEFUL, without surveilance.
@kevinrns @alphasixtyfive @hankarus @nixCraft I think that there should be tribunals held for how much E-Waste is going to be caused by Microsoft's intentional euthanization of reasonable computers...
We as Society already hold Apple to a high standard as we should and I think it's high time we also start pointing some serious blame at Microsoft for a copycatting apple when it comes to e-waste. We can do better as a society and we need to and we should..
@Vonskinnback @kevinrns @alphasixtyfive @hankarus @nixCraft that's ironic because Apple has about a 7-year fixed life span on their laptops and desktops and they're consistency allows me to then make Capital purchases on a regular basis every 2/3 of a decade knowing the exact lifespan of my Hardware on the other hand Microsoft is going to cost me $6,000 this year because they're absolutely asinine requirements for Windows 11 means that my 7th gen I5 Panasonic Toughbook that I use for my work in the field and in my lab is it going to be supported in about a year. And to replace it I have to buy a brand new model not a used one because only those support 11.
Apple has cost me $4,000 in the last 10 years because in 2012 I bought a Mac Pro Tower then I ran until last year. And I just replaced it this last July with a M2 Ultra Mac studio...
Maybe I'm a unique use case but in my case I see far more damage done as a business from Microsoft and they're unpredictable lifespans.
