Two weeks ago, a build of Mastodon's Web interface removed two features which impacted me, other power users and some folks with accessibility issues.

And many of us complained 'cause, well, it kinda sucked.

But @renchap and the developers listened to us! And they didn't just back out those changes. No, they restored the functionality integrated with other new features.

So, I wanted to publicly thank them for all that hard work and landing it last week. Y'all rock! 💖

A new (?) feature, that I really like, is the display of author and date in the preview cards of external links. (Obviously it can only work for websites, that provide this information as structured data.)

@Life_is Oh yes! And you wouldn't believe how much that improves my boosting by making it much easier for me to evaluate which information is timely.

Please keep these great features coming!

@renchap @Gargron

@lisamelton @renchap @Gargron It's nice when features are build and changed based on user feedback, rather than their impact on ad impressions/profit.
@lisamelton @renchap @Gargron Microsoft recently did this with teams where you can no longer replace the existing file while sharing in chat. I really hope they can learn from these kind of responses but then again it’s Microsoft. They are in same altitude as Boeing.
@lisamelton @renchap @Gargron What were those features?

@eatyourglory The temporarily removed features were the quick filter bar in the Notifications view (which looks better now!) and Back buttons/arrows (which also look better now!) in several views, e.g. in Lists.

@renchap @Gargron

@lisamelton @renchap @Gargron In what Mastodon version can these features be found in?

@eatyourglory These features have been in the nightly build since Wednesday of last week and are visible on servers like mastodon.social and others.

@renchap @Gargron

@lisamelton @eatyourglory @renchap @Gargron Missed both features, too. So glad they're back! 🤗
@lisamelton @renchap @Gargron I love how responsive the admins are (at least the ones in my experience), and the people doing general help, like #FediTips, etc.

@AskPippa Indeed! The Mastodon community is like no other. It's, of course, not perfect but, ZOMG!, the people here are so much more pleasant and helpful than those on any other social media platform I've been involved in.

@renchap @Gargron

@lisamelton @renchap @Gargron

And that is what makes this a great environment!

@lisamelton @renchap @Gargron

I had a similar experience with Mastodon's spectacular team.

The problem was a lot simpler and undoubtedly required a much lower tech solution than yours, but they responded immediately & fixed it.

No matter how big or small the issue, they actually & authentically care.

So glad I made the move from X-itter.

@lisamelton

I'm *so* glad it turned out this well and you received a good response that solved the issue that this build caused you (and others)!!
