The number of murders in the #UnitedStates jumped by nearly 30% in 2020, the largest single-yr increase ever recorded in the country, acc/to ofcl FBI stats.
The data shows 21,570 homicides in the US in 2020, which is a staggering 4,901 more than in 2019. The increase was the largest since national records began being kept in 1960s.

The quarterly report released Tues is based on data sent to the FBI from about 80% of the #law enforcement agencies in the country. Final detailed data for 2023 is expected to be released in the fall.

There is also state level research, that shows similar results: researchers at the #CATOInstitute, a #CONSERVATIVE #LIBERTARIAN think tank, looked into #Texas in 2019. They found that undocumented #immigrants were 37.1% less likely to be convicted of a #crime.
