Working your whole life only to enjoy a few years when you're close to death is one of the biggest scams.

We need to shift this mindset.

@FluentInFinance

Its even worse when you end up having to spend your savings taking care of your kids.

@FluentInFinance the system works perfectly for those that put the system in place. Nothing is broken...

Work Chronicles
@FluentInFinance I've had a job since I was 11. I've been working for 33 years. I'm exhausted! I'm not old enough to retire and I moved to another country at age 28 so I had to start over with gov't pension plans. Ugh.

@FluentInFinance have you ever heard of the Indus Sarasvati Vallery Civilization? https://humanjourney.us/ideas/connecting-with-the-gods/early-civilizations-harappa/

We can do better.

https://symbolsage.com/history-of-yoga-from-ancient-india-to-modern-times/

Civilization with around 5 million people who didn’t have any war for almost 2000 years, There were no temples or palaces. No mansions. Public bath houses and plumbing for every home.

We can do better. I believe we can.

Indus-Sarasvati Civilization

Indus-Sarasvati Civilization: One of the Largest Civilizations of the Ancient World By Sally MallamContributing Writer By 2,500 BCE the Indus-Sarasvati or Harappan civilization became the largest civilization of the Ancient world, extending over more than 386,000 square miles (1 million square kilometers) across the plains of the Indus River from the Arabian Sea to the … Continue reading Indus-Sarasvati Civilization →

The Human Journey
@FluentInFinance absolutely. We have got to put those lazy old people to work so we can enjoy life while we're still able.

@FluentInFinance

It'll never happen, but I want that post-money Star Trek life where everyone's basic needs are met automatically for free, and they can choose jobs that they find fulfilling.

@FluentInFinance Well, in truth you're working your whole life so somebody else can enjoy *their* whole life. They let you off the hook to go die when they're satisfied they've drained you to the point of not being useful to them anymore.

They aren't letting you go enjoy your life, they're just tired of paying you.

@FluentInFinance People should be prohibited from working

@FluentInFinance And those years aren't really enjoyable anyway, because all that work takes its toll. The PR images of active seniors traveling the world during their retirement? Nope.

I highly recommend people postpone parenting until they've had some time as singles/DINKs to do all the stuff they originally thought they might do in retirement. You never get back the body you had at 26. Aggressive career climbing at that age is a waste.

@FluentInFinance and capitalism is selling us the middle ages as "dark" and "uncomfortable"
@FluentInFinance
Just to clarify, “we need to fix this mindset” does not mean raising the retirement age past life expectancy.
@FluentInFinance: I don't even expect to make it to retirement age, which makes it an even bigger scam.
@FluentInFinance
Had I not moved to the #Union friendly #SFBayArea in my late 20’s there’s no way I could have retired at 59. But I did, I joined a union. Lost a job over it once, and a few times was out of work struggling because I had to honor a picket line. But I retired and can live on a pension after 31 years. Pension controlled by Union, not by employer, that’s critical! Keep faith with your fellow worker, stand together. #UnionStrong is the only resource a working man needs when the GOP are held at bay. If tfg gets in, or R’s take the Congress, then your screwed no matter what
@FluentInFinance

If you enjoy what you work you would not have "this mindset" and you can enjoy your whole professional life.
In a patriarchal economy based on exploitation this is only possible for a few.
@FluentInFinance @eilonwy The good news is - we don’t need permission from anyone to do this. We shouldn’t expect anyone to do it for us, or make it easy for us - why would they if they benefit from the status quo - but we can just change our thinking/goals/lifestyle anytime we want.
@FluentInFinance I always thought vacation allocation was backward. When my children were young and I most wanted to spend time with them in the summer, I had three weeks of vacation. Now I’m in my 50s, my children are grown, and I get six weeks of vacation. How I wish I could take some of the weeks I have now and send them back to when I was in my 30s.
@FluentInFinance
Okay.
Imagine, you are powerful enough to shift it at once. What could be the proper mindset and system?
