Right outside the warranty period my beloved mouse started needing you to click *really* hard for it to function ;_;

Comfy mouse though, will probably rebuy

@christianselig If only our world wasn't subject to the forces of entropy. I've bought the same mouse like 3 times now.
@christianselig If you can open it up, putting a some isopropyl alcohol or a tiny amount of WD40 into the affected switch and clicking it a few times might fix it.
@fi I tried blowing a crap ton of air into it and no dice, it really does not seem like it wants to be opened up :(
@christianselig one of these days I’ll give a more expensive vertical mouse a go. I tried a cheap one years ago and had to tense my wrist too much to keep it steady to click, it was likely due to it being cheap vs a vertical mouse thing but it scared me off for a while.
@roisinmaeve Yeah I think it matters a bunch how well it fits your hand too, they vary a bunch in size
@roisinmaeve @christianselig I've tried at least 4 brands and price doesn't correlate to comfort. Logitec is most comfortable for me but also high price, but jTech makes one for $20 that is comfortable too. Anker is mid price but least comfortable for me.
@christianselig Have you considered the MX Vertical? When I was deciding between the two, I went with the MX Vertical simply because it felt sturdier.
@macmanx I have one of those too! I lean toward the Lift because I like the size better, I don't have the biggest hands so it's just a smidge more comfortable, plus I like the white
@christianselig Oh, wow there is a size difference, I must have forgotten.

@christianselig This seems like a common issue with the switches used in Logitech stuff, and has been for a long time.

Around a decade ago when I was using a Logitech Marble Mouse trackball as my main mouse, one or both of the buttons would consistently develop similar issues with time. I think I went through at least three of those things. Haven't had problems since switching to other manufacturers.

@johnwells I have an MX Vertical as well and it's been going pretty strong for me, I'm willing to write this off as just unlucky, but two would be unfortunate haha

@christianselig

Get a cheap set of steel feeler gauges ($5 at Harbor Freight) and slide a thin one into the gaps and around the buttons, to clear out any obstructions.

Gently, don't use gorilla strength; and don't stick them too far in. Also, unplug / battery out / power off / whatever.

@christianselig in my experience Logitech is relatively forgiving about their warranty periods… or at least they were when I had a similar issue with my MX 1000, which, granted that was something like *checks notes* twenty years ago?! okay, never mind, they probably aren’t as flexible these days
@christianselig I love my keychron M3, especially paired with the software Mac mouse fix
@christianselig that’s never happened to my Logitech mice, however, my razor Naga v2 after sitting unused for a while, I have to click really hard and then then he kind of goes back to normal for a sec.
@christianselig Oh! So bad to hear that! How old is it?
@estebanborai A bit over a year

@christianselig @estebanborai Oh! What a surprise, I would expect at least 2 years lifespan 🤔.

Logitech is not a very high quality brand but I would think products from them are good enough to last longer

@christianselig send to me i can replace switches
@christianselig Now that you’re in custom ergo keyboard world, seems about time for you to get into trackballs! https://ploopy.co/adept-trackball/
Adept Trackball – Ploopy

@kf @christianselig wait what

Are artisan trackballs a thing now?

@b3ll @christianselig YUP. Though Ploopy may be one of the first that isn’t completely DIY. Careful you don’t get lost in /r/trackballs
@kf Trackballs feel weird to me in that you're lying your hand flat again with most of them which never has felt ergonomic to me, and the side tilted ones put so much work into just your thumb which also sounds a bit strange

@christianselig The thumb style are all bad IMO for that reason — my thumbs would be dead b/w that and my phone. I love those like Adept or Kensington Slimblade, though I use them with my wrist more rotated outward, so it’s not as flat as you may imagine. I think folks looking for something more ergonomic lean towards the Classic, oftentimes with a 3D printed wedge for more tilt.

Also, I use a button to toggle scrolling, which is much nicer than any wheel.

Classic Trackball – Ploopy

@kf Dang, that one's cute. Does it come in wireless by chance?

@kf @christianselig I've used Logitech thumb-trackballs for years. It's true it sure wears your thumb muscle out at first, but after 20 years I don't notice at all, but I can tell the difference between my left & right thumb muscles not just by feel but visually! (don't know if there's any left-handed such things)

It's not quite precise enough for photo-retouching, but you can zip the pointer all around the screen amazingly fast.

@christianselig Tip it onto its nose and tap firmly on your desk a bunch of times. There might just be dirt in the contact.
@swordgeek I blew some air in it and it helped for about an hour, so you might be onto something
@christianselig my lift mouse started doing the same thing in the last couple of weeks! After a couple of days it got a bit better (not sure why). Thinking of taking it apart, but there are a metric ton of screws to get to the switch.
@christianselig This was a very timely post! My 6+ year old MS mouse’s back button keeps triggering whenever I brush against it. Definitely going to check this one out.
@christianselig had this same thing happen on my MX Vertical (almost 5 years old though). Bought a Lift as a replacement, really like it but I bought a case on Amazon for travel 😂 I’m trying to avoid the same fate
