It's a tiny thing, but something I miss when using platforms other than macOS for my day-to-day is the ubiquitous functional drag and drop. It's nice to be able to drag an attachment straight out of an email in Mail.app and drop it into a web form without an intermediate file cluttering up my downloads folder.

It feels so natural that it's a bit shocking when it's not there or support is only half-baked.

It doesn’t get talked about a lot, but Bluetooth on Apple stuff has gotten really, really good.

I can listen to something playing on my M4 iPad Pro using AirPods Pro 2 on the other side of the house on a different floor through walls and the audio doesn’t cut out or degrade or anything.

That’s borderline WiFi performance which is crazy for the same standard that with other source + receiver combos sometimes struggle to function with just one wall separating them.

In this screenshot, the Spaces icon in the Dock showing off its 2D grid-based nature is visible.

I used that feature extensively and was so let down when 10.7 Lion watered Spaces down to a single axis. While I understand that the original version may have been confusing for new users I wish they'd left it in as an option that was turned off by default.

It may just be my imagination, but I feel like in the past 2-3 months there’s been a notable increase in the number of EVs I see on the road around here. It’s getting to the point where it’s strange if I don’t see several while out and about.

Maybe most surprising is the number of Honda Prologues. Wouldn’t have expected a GM rebadge to be that successful.

And all of this is despite tax incentives drying up…

Walking through Portland on a rainy morning is such a vibe
Love how this one has UI elements acting as illumination which is reflected by other elements. It’s creative and gives it a distinct mood.

Good video on how Liquid Glass and the flat design it was built on were a wrong turn for Apple

What’s the longest lived regularly used piece of hardware in your setup?

Mine is probably a PowerMac G4 styled (silver underneath clear plastic) 4-port USB 2.0 hub that I bought sometime back around 2010, which my keyboard and mouse are connected to. It’s finally starting to show signs of flaking out, but 16 years is a pretty good run!

It might be a bit of a niche opinion, but I'm starting to feel that every browser should offer a decent-if-basic optional per-window vertical tabs mode.

Vertical tabs don't bring much to the table for basic daily use with just a handful of tabs, but when you're doing things like shopping or research you quickly end up with an endless explosion of tabs, which more traditional browsers like Chrome and Safari manage extremely poorly.
