I want a reality TV show where a hardcore linux nerd and someone who knows absolutely nothing about technology trade their setups for a week. The Linux nerd gets one hour to explain their setup to the tech noob, then they're both on their own. The noob would have to wrap their heads around the alien Hyprland and Neovim bindings and figure out how to get things done without unfree software, and the linux nerd would spend most of their time complaining about the design decisions of Apple/Microsoft/Google and being paranoid that the unfree software is CIA spyware. No matter what, it would be quite entertaining.

@ultrasquid

Hyprland and Neovim

You somehow know me too well

@ultrasquid i used to give away computers with debian and lxde, to pensioners who needed to use the internet and listen to their mp3 collections.

they had more trouble with windows.

but i stopped doing this when systemd rolled out. it caused enough problems i had no interest in fixing for red hat, and i didnt want to subject other people to it either.

@ultrasquid Yes that does sound interesting.
@ultrasquid "don't worry, if you don't like the keybindings, you can change them in the source code and recompile."
- me, probably
@ultrasquid computer with untweaked windows 11 with 5 game launchers and 5 rootkits all running in the background the whole time, the browser is opera gx, the desktop is completely unorganized, half the disk is taken up by fortnite, due to all the bloat it takes over a minute to boot and routinely overheats, inside the case is a literal biosphere
