There is a work-around.

#Debian

@SpaceLifeForm @feld Debian is a workaround for 32-bit Windows?

@ytvwld @feld

You could be surprised as to what you can get working. May be slow, but you never know until you try.

2. What’s new in Debian 13 — release-notes documentation

@SpaceLifeForm @feld It doesn't run Windows applications, does it? I fail to see how this is relevant.

@ytvwld @feld

In theory, it could.

But, back up. What applications are you thinking about? Do they need internet access?

@SpaceLifeForm @feld please read the thread you're replying to: curl is planning on dropping the 32-bit Windows builds. How does Debian help here?

@ytvwld @feld

If you have a dependency on curl, and you are also stuck using an old 32 bit windows, then at some point in the future, a situation could arise where your old curl can not fetch.

But, potentially, you could boot #linux and use an updated curl to pull the data.

What may happen down the road is that a lot of kiosks may stop working. There are literally many millions of kiosks running on 32 bit windows XP or CE.

@SpaceLifeForm @feld oh, that's a fair point. If WSL also works on 33-bit installs (I've never tried it), you wouldn't even need to reboot.

@ytvwld @feld

It doesn't, and never will.

There is no 32-bit WSL.

@SpaceLifeForm @ytvwld @[email protected] So we need these 32-bit builds because there are millions of outdated devices out there that shouldn't be connected to the Internet in the first place?

@bitpirate @ytvwld

The kiosks are going to fail at some point anyway, but that is some business' problem. But it is easier for an individual. Just stop using Windows.

A user that wants to get off of Windows should do so now while it is possible before their curl stops working.
