So ... LibreOffice on my #FreeBSD system just upgraded from 7.6.x to ... 24.2.x.

With new release model #LibreOffice follows #Ubuntu way with TWO major releases each year ... each 2 months before #Ubuntu release so that next #Ubuntu would have enough time to include it :)

@vermaden i think #NetBSD #FreeBSD #OpenBSD can follow numbering their version that way. Also #pkgsrc kind of does that already and it makes sense.

@jaypatelani

I would not change NOW the #NetBSD/#OpenBSD/#FreeBSD versioning scheme.

I would put it that way: pick the versioning scheme you want and stick to it.

The changes between the versioning schemes hurt the most ... also in the automation part - you then need to support TWO OR MORE versioning schemes in your scripts ... its really a PITA.

@vermaden Also makes it way easier to sell @libreoffice to #TechIlliterates who think they need #MicrosoftOffice when they barely use half the features of the #CalligraSuite...

@kkarhan @libreoffice

Yes - it can be a good marketing move.

Also - it AMAZES me how many people still know/recall that the free/open source MS Office is LibreOffice - even in 2023/2024 - the moment I tell them its LibreOffice and not OpenOffice for more then a decade and that NOW it really works and You do not need paid MS Office at all makes their mind almost go to factory defaults :)

@vermaden @libreoffice Yeah...

Espechally when they realize #LibreOffice does literally everything they want but better!

Same with @ubuntu / #UbuntuLTS #Linux on Desktop vs. #Windows...
