"...which also means giving their AI access to my computer! This is messed up."
As messed up as a company that wants to implant chips in people's brains?
@rodhilton FWIW I also couldn't figure out how to install Windows the last time I built a PC. Driver issues are hard!
(So I just put fedora on all the partitions and realized that Steam could still run the games I cared about.)
What he says is true. It's a shame and we just went through this experience before him.
@rodhilton The replies to this really highlight the complaints i hear of mastadon.
I just came here to say that if I have a billion dollars there is no way I'm ever setting up a new laptop. So many better things to do.
Sometimes I read his posts, but honestly, most of the time they drive me up the wall and I even have to reply to them because I'm so annoyed
But in this case I can also see that he's bothered that Microsoft is doing this, also with the reference to AI, Musk is doing the same with Grok so he shouldn't criticize others.
I really had to laugh a lot at your toot here, thank you.
Many of the answers are also really great.
Musk is denying Taiwan Starlink access, but China is good to go..
We pay that motherfucker tax payer money.....WTF
Can tell you for certain that it is because the pursuit of money is soul sucking and deadly dull. People who commit themselves to getting rich are dullards incapable of interesting creative thought.
Edit: As a case in point, think about how much fun doing your taxes is. Now imagine choosing to do that everyday.
@rodhilton Well, it's probably easier to travel to Mars than it is to install Windows in a secure way.
I'm not saying the crazy muskelon could manage any task more difficult than senselessly repeating right-libertarian catchphrases.
I'm saying he couldn't.
@rodhilton If anyone needs help with this: Microsoft tried to get me to make a Microsoft account for my father in law's computer when I was setting it up.
I was able to intuit that it would probably not hassle me if I forced it to not talk to the internet for the account service.
Turns out it's common for people to unplug their router when doing this, but I found it was much easier to just click the "sign in with a passkey" option and then click the button a few times so it would think I had a busted yubikey. Then click the back button and it skips the whole process because it assumes you've got it set up.
@rodhilton There also used to be an option to skip signing into or creating a Twitter account.
Karma gets us all in the end.
@rodhilton would you want windows on a spaceship????
