It’s not an accident that “Side Hustle” culture emerged at the same time as corporations hit 70 year profit highs and wage growth hit a 40 year low.

This shit is connected, folks.

@Daojoan We strongly recommend stealing from your job as a side hustle, cut out the middlemen and extra hours
@Daojoan @lisamelton
Imagine the economic "catastrophe" if Americans weren't forced by employer-linked healthcare to keep their "main hustle".
@ian @Daojoan @lisamelton
UBI would also help immeasurably.
@Daojoan Of course it is. The only difference between slavery now and slavery then is they changed the whip.
@the_q @Daojoan And also made it much more diverse, inclusive, and not restricted to certain jobs, like picking cotton or building an entire nation’s railway network.
@Daojoan i can't even find a low wage job in this economy so it's full time side hustle my hobbies or starve.

@Daojoan I've always hated the glorification of side hustles.

Side hustles are bad.

@jaykass @Daojoan why are side hustles bad? Isn't it what we associate with it? If you make a bit of money from a hobby you really enjoy doing why is it bad

@scientistXYZ @jaykass @Daojoan

The bad part is when people *HAVE* to do it to make ends meet.

@Daojoan so I have a serious question, at what point does "I have a side hustle" become "I'm working two jobs to make ends meet." ?

@ShredderFeeder
The moment you dislike your side hustle as much or more than your actual job then it's officially become a second job.

@Daojoan

@mnemonicoverload @Daojoan I hate both jobs equally. I love both paychecks equally. I'm kinda fucked.
@mnemonicoverload @Daojoan For the record, both are full time jobs, and both pay about the same. ;-) (one about 18% more.)
@Daojoan @ShredderFeeder
Oof, two full time jobs is a lot. I mean you gotta do what you gotta do for now but that's not sustainable long term. Figuring a way out before you burn out is going to be critical and the sooner the better. That shit can sneak up on you real quick.

@mnemonicoverload @Daojoan Meh - it's spending time in front of the computer...which honestly I'm going to be doing anyway. :) My wife gives me such shit.

"How can you spend all day in front of computer and come home and relax in front of the computer?" ;-)

It's all what the friedmanites called 'Economic Shock Doctrine' - and what Naomi Klein calls Disaster Capitalism. enforce brutal poverty and untold suffering, and people will try to innovate their way out of it to survive. Klein called most of this with her analysis years and years ago.
the friedman school / the chicago boys have caused untold suffering worldwide and are some of the worst fucking villains ever, in some sense.
