A lot of boring ballads, and some truly horrendous songs, but there were a couple stand outs. Just wish FiK would start letting anything that isn't a ballad qualify...

Italy 2024
my god, italy has so many good songs... la noia is my favourite though, it's definitely an ass-shaking song
also i didn't actually watch the show (way too long and i don't understand italian) so i just watched the performances on tw!tter

im so happy that she won, but also sad that sanremo already over. also that this is amadeus' last year being creative director and host of the show...
the top 5 in the superfinal were angelina mango, geolier, annalisa, ghali, and irama, so i liked 3 of the top 5!!

i'd written these out before the national final, but it made sense for me to at least watch the live performances so i could update the scores if needed. the ones that changed were galant (the performance really elevated the song, i was impressed) and florian (kinda hate the song more now)

Moldova 2024
I'm actually surprised this year, there wasn't one song that really screamed "BIG TELEVOTE" the way the past few years have gone.
Interestingly enough, this is also the 4th year in a row where an artist who previously competed is competing again (counting 2021 when they just sent their 2020 artist again due to COVID cancelling the contest). If I was betting, I would put my money on Aliona Moon returning next year (she returned this year but dropped out last minute) given the trend
Also, I have to talk about Sasha Bognibov. I'm not going to read out the titles of his other songs, but he's very gross, and his songs give off predator vibes. He submits a song every year or every other year and it's embarassing that the Moldovan broadcaster continues to give him a platform

Denmark 2024
While I'm pleasantly surprised that the songs weren't *that* bad and that my favourite won, the quality of Denmark's songs is still concerning and the fact that there were no songs in Danish is more so
I've heard rumours and speculation that the Danish broadcaster gave up on trying after Copenhagen 2013 (when they hosted) went very overbudget, but I find that hard to believe. It's not that difficult to at least make your national final a celebration of your national music industry, even if your Eurovision record isn't very good and you don't want to win

I decided for this one, since I watched all 10 live performances so recently, that I would update all my scores and put it all nice and neat in a table so you can see how my ranking changed. And it definitely changed...
While Blankiflúr was still good, I thought her staging felt a little underwhelming, while Bashar Murad's staging elevated his song so much that I finally get why people had this as their favourite
Still not sure how Væb managed to qualify though. That performance actually managed to make me like it less

San Marino 2024
For such a small country, they somehow managed to find two bangers (I suppose neither Mate or Megara are actually from San Marino but still)
I was actually surprised to find myself really liking two of the songs from this national final, when most of the time I really don't like anything San Marino sends. For those unaware, San Marino gets a lot of Italian (and some Spanish) artists in their national final since their native population is so small, and it's usually people who don't have the talent to represent their own country but desperately want to go to Eurovision anyway and see San Marino as an easy but expensive option to do so
Despite all of that, I loved Mate and Megara! Maybe San Marino will qualify this year, who knows... 🫣
Also quite funny that Loredana Bertè was personally invited over from Sanremo in Italy to compete in San Marino with her song, with everyone calling it rigged in her favour, only for her to come 2nd in the end. That's also why I have a duplicate in my spreadsheet now
Two more things: they also had some kind of "AI" contest where artists could send in their songs to be enhanced by an AI and then the best one would go straight to the final? Not sure what the fuck that was supposed to accomplish but it resulted in a song from the perspective of a Polar Bear that came 7th
Finally, I am NOT listening to and scoring the full 129 songs in this national final. That would be insane
