The Fediverse has a video platform called PeerTube, you can follow PeerTube accounts from Mastodon and from podcast apps too.

If you want to publish your videos on PeerTube, I've done an extensive guide for this at:

Hopefully this guide answers questions video makers might have. Let me know if there's stuff that isn't answered.

@FediTips do you know why I can't follow peertube from my #gotosocial instance?

@esoteric_programmer

It may be because GoToSocial is still in alpha testing, it has a lot of bugs. Perhaps @gotosocial can help?

Another possibility is there's something wrong with the PeerTube server you're trying to follow an account from. Was there a particular address you were trying to follow?

@FediTips @gotosocial nothing special, a tilvids account, but it happens with any account, and apparently an old...ish problem still persists to this day
@esoteric_programmer @FediTips @gotosocial they just fixed the same problem for Bookwyrm so I guess they just haven’t gotten around to doing so yet, they do impressive work

Hi There, I have tried to follow Peertube users, but without success, I always get for example a time=2022-06-01T08:27:48Z level=error msg=worker.Worker[messages.FromClientAPI] BatchDeliver: at lea...

@jasdemi @FediTips are we still plagued by not signing query parameters? I remember when I tryed to write a fedi server for fun, and I got this same problem. I mean, it doesn't make things better that we, aka the whole fediverse, are using a draft version of a specification, which is supposed to grant us some kind of security...yeah. Honestly, this is one of the few critiques of the fediverse I have, because other than those, this place is awesome
@FediTips Any plans of PeerTube paying *cough* 'Content Creators'? I understand it's federated so that might not be possible. I saw the other day that (even) Rumble now pays content creators (just adding).

/Not for me but asking before I spread the word.

@Deus

PeerTube isn't an organisation, it's lots of independent servers that run on the free open source PeerTube software. PeerTube servers may (or may not) also display videos from other PeerTube servers.

It's up to each PeerTube server and member to decide what to do about funding and content.

I've already covered how funding for video makers can work on PeerTube in the link in the original post (https://fedi.tips/how-to-publish-videos-and-audio-on-peertube/).

There's also an optional pay-to-view feature in development.

Looking at how it's ALL about earning from the content your create (these days), I'd be tempted to add publish, videos, audios AND EARN on peertube on the title for that post.

The vast majority of people will not earn much/any money from making videos, even on YouTube. I don't think it's useful to approach it from that point of view in a guide aimed at a general audience.

Also, having a website title talking about earning money would make it seem like some kind of scam site. I don't really want to give that impression.

@FediTips No they won't. It tempts—or, to put it another way, encourages—people to create content, whether good or bad. Viral videos aren't solely those that have the highest production quality. Imagine CNN (oh well) going, "This video posted on PeerTube is going VIRAL!!". What better press/publicity than that?
