Shell’s Massive Carbon Capture Plant Is Emitting More Than It’s Capturing

A new Global Witness report found that it has the same carbon footprint per year as 1.2 million gas-powered cars.

@chad they must have wired it up wrong. Is it red to black or red to red ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@chad The only logical way to store carbon in the ground is as oil and coal. Cheap, easy solution. Don't drill it out or mine it and it is 100% efficient.

@chad

we have carbon capture plants

literally

they are called *plants*

plant a billion trees and stop deforestation

@benroyce @chad they not gonna help, because they have their limitations and warmer the climate, harder for them to draw out CO2 from air.
Just stop fuel. Enough with this "we can not let our billions go".
@benroyce @chad Agreed on the first part, but planting trees/plants is just a big greenwashing theatre for corporations. We need to get out of fossil fuels, now.
@chad of course it is. And even if it captured every gaseous drop it still wouldn’t reduce emissions at all, just make them easier to store in tanks that they then have to build.
@chad laundering my carbon through a carbon capture plant
@chad So yet more greenwashing, then.
@chad Why is this not a surprise? 😳
@chad CO2 capture and storage is not a sustainable way to capture and sequester carbon

@chad I literally had to read this sentence several times. "the production of fossil hydrogen (hydrogen produced from natural gas) that’s supplemented with carbon capture technology as a “climate-friendly”"

Fossil hydrogen? Really? I'll have to look that up. I always thought splitting H2O was less toxic to the environment.

@chad This isn't shocking in the slightest. Almost all carbon capture technologies are a sham promoted by fossil fuel corporations.
@chad
That's one big beautiful tax deduction, without a doubt
@chad as always, delay, delay, delay. They cannot imagine a world where they are not kingmakers.
@chad All it needs is more money.

@chad

Not that I dispute the findings in this report - it's obvious to anyone who looked into carbon capture that it was total bs... but I've got to point out that vice is a Saudi-owned propaganda rag now, so be careful with your reliance on their word.

@chad LOL. Being paid for with our tax money while the shareholders get rich.
