This type of variations in the frequency of electricity arise because market participants act on price variations per hour (or per 15 minutes).
Would the addition of many GW of batteries to the system result in an increase or decrease of these variations?

@BM_Visser If the batteries operate under the same market rules like the rest of power producers do, no decrease. Since they can ramp up/down super fast, it could actually become worse (increase).

Of course one could do the sensible thing and allow the network operators a few GWs of batteries to smooth things out - outside the market rules. But that would be evil socialism, so probably not gonna happen.
