Neither the NY Times or the Washington Post reported Trump's statement that he would encourage Russia to attack NATO on the front page.

Both managed to find room for missives on Biden's age & memory.

And they're completely flummoxed as to why journalism is dying...

@sfdb I predict they will never stop referring to Bill Ackman as the "liberal billionaire" no matter how much he rants about black people being allowed into universities.
@NIH_LLAMAS @sfdb And no matter how much he embraces RFKJ’s antisemitic covid conspiracy theories.
@NIH_LLAMAS @sfdb or how many far right wing trolls like ramaswamy he supports.
@sfdb ai is strong with them....
@sfdb Covered by NYT this morning near top of page
@tmstreet the front page? I don't see it.
@sfdb It's on my online version. Don't know about print version.

@tmstreet c'mon, man. I'm referring to the front page of the print version. You know, the image that is attached.

JFC.

@sfdb Ok. I did not know to which version you were referring.

@tmstreet I attached the image, FFS.

Sheesh.

@sfdb Yes,you did but I did not notice that. Sorry.

@sfdb However, in terms of reach, online is more important.

As of February 2024, The New York Times has 10.36 million subscribers, with 9.7 million online subscribers and 660,000 print subscribers, the second-largest newspaper by print circulation in the United States behind The Wall Street Journal.

@sfdb @tmstreet
You seem to be pushing an agenda here. Why?

It's the number two story on the online NYT, which vastly more people read. It's the number one AND number two story on the online Washington Post.

Maybe the story missed the deadline for the front page? Maybe you got the early Sunday edition to make a dishonest point? I don't know. But you're twisting the facts, that's 100% clear.

@taoish @tmstreet Respectfully, you're referring to the landing page of the website. I was referring to the front page pf the print paper. I actually provided you with a copy of the image I was referring to.

I have no agenda and it wasn't a dishonest point. The papers did not include the story on the front page of their print papers. You can agree that it's a significant point or not but there was no agenda being pushed.

@sfdb @taoish @tmstreet

Calling the online front page of these papers "the landing page" makes no sense, and again seems deliberately misleading. What percentage of NYT and WaPo readers have a paper copy? 10% maybe?

The online version IS the paper to the vast majority of readers. It is the front page. I don't know where you got your images but respectfully, they don't matter much and are very misleading.

@taoish @tmstreet it does make sense when I include images of what I'm referring to in the post and you ignore them in order to be argumentative and make irrelevant points.

If it doesn't matter much then I guess we're done. Bye.

@sfdb @taoish @tmstreet

I included a more recent and relevant image of my own. Furthermore, the NYT is the most successful newspaper on earth, hardly failing.

What point were trying to make?

Trump Says He Gave NATO Allies Warning: Pay In or He’d Urge Russian Aggression

Speaking in Conway, S.C., Donald J. Trump said as president he had told NATO allies that he would urge Russian aggression against countries that had not met unofficial financial commitments.

The New York Times
@sfdb @Theblueone I was fulminating to myself about exactly this. It was covered online but I couldn't find it *easily* -- ended up using search. This is beyond the damn pale, and I see no reason for media not to be lighting this up like a Christmas tree.
@freemancrouch @sfdb @Theblueone big media is owned by the super rich that will benefit from Trump’s tax policies

@sfdb FWIW -- The Post has this story on its online edition -- but not in the screaming 144 point headline it deserves:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2024/02/10/trump-nato-allies-russia/

Trump says he’d disregard NATO treaty, urge Russian attacks on U.S. allies

The Republican front-runner said he encouraged Russia to “do whatever the hell they want” to member countries he views as not spending enough on their own defense.

The Washington Post
@sfdb I’m surprised they haven’t gone after T*ump’s opponent, Nancy Pelosi, the way they went after Clinton. /s/
@sfdb American ceos want a communist America they will do anything to destroy freedom and democracy
@sfdb The websites feature the story at or near the top:
@Hal_Brown I'm not referring to the website. The image that I attached is of the printed paper. There is a difference.
@sfdb Back in the 90s the NYT was the excellence in journalism, papers like NewsDay, Post, Daily News were second rate (although Daily News was my favorite growing up). Since then, the NYT lose its shine... and still keeps losing it. #smh
@sfdb But they did report.

The New York Times
@steven I'm not saying they didn't report it. It's not on the front page of the paper, that's my point. I thought I made that pretty clear.
@sfdb @steven Maybe it was not when you checked. It is 100% the top story now.
@notabird @steven Do you not understand the difference between the website landing page and a real print newspaper with a front page?
@sfdb @steven Who cares? Who reads newspapers..

@notabird @steven sheesh. I wish you would have said that at the beginning. I wouldn't have wasted my time trying to explain it to you.

Enjoy your day!

@sfdb @notabird I put those links in so everybody could read what both news orgs published. They are both all over it.

Print deadlines are earlier than they have ever been, so it's difficult to get a late story in.
@steven @sfdb Exactly. This is not the story to highlight the imbalance in coverage. There often is, but not this one.
@sfdb And the funniest thing ever is that they think we're stupid enough to pay for their corporatist media-infotainment complex trash....
@sfdb It’s the top story in their online edition right now.
@sfdb Hmm. Black Rock & Vanguard own controlling shares of NY Times. And ...who benefits from another trump shit show presidency???
@sfdb Their coverage of the Gaza situation is a better illustration of why journalism (and journalists) are both dying.
Hey @sfdb, Biden is 80 and Trump is what? 77? And wears diapers? And is a rapist and vast tax swindler. And 91 other worse things? Or am I falling for fake news again?
@sfdb They are a bit late, but I see it everywhere now from Wapo, CNN, NPR.. Actually surprised. NyTimes it felt like was soft pedaling until all the other outlets made frontpage.
@sfdb
if it smells, it sells
@sfdb At this point, they are the enemy & need to die so something better can take their place.
