Finally got to demo the #Apple #visionpro today and all can say is I am a believer! The reviews and hands on don’t do it justice. You have to actually experience it for yourself. It was a the closest I’ve ever been to a baby rhinos running into me, I actually jumped back thinking they were there. I’ve never seen a great white shark that up close. Alicia Keys was so real I was shocked!
Its heavy, but not enough to think about it constantly, there was some light leak around my nose, but it didn't affect the experience. Seeing my environment and 3D elements appear in it was unlike anything I have ever seen before. I have tried #HoloLens, an employees VR headset at a hotel, #VisionPro's polish was second to none!
The review videos don't give you the same level of depth you get when you are wearing. Just like the actor in the #WWDC demo, the textures, lighting of apps such as the #Photos app looked beautiful, balanced and delightful in your environment.
The gestures will take some adjustments, the initial setup was quick and easy and I was at the #HomeView in minutes, its certainly faster than setting up a #Mac #iPhone or #iPad. Initially, there was a sense of double vision, but my eyes eventually calibrated and once I started launching apps, the dust settled. App icons on the Home View look so much like real buttons, especially when your eyes move around. #VisionPro
#VisionPro made me realize how powerful my own vision is, to be able to look at something then launching it with the just the tap of my index #finger and thumb was second nature. Looking at a gigantic photo was like experiencing a new graphical interface for the very first time, images just pop at life size.
#3D movies on #VisionPro are extremely immersive, this is definitely the best part of using the device, going back to photos a bit, Panoramas look good, but are not mesmerizingly sharp. There was so much going on during the demo, its hard to explain.
3D photos and and videos really put you in the moment, but not fully there, its more like a time capsule which is nice. Its just an opportunity to look back in a clearer way than from memory. The kids blowing out the candles on the cake or the bubbles being blown brings a new dimension to enjoying media. I had a little bit of an issue when I was asked to move between photos and videos in the library, I actually had to lift my hand and do the pinch right to left.
The store was somewhat crowded, but I wasn't bothered by the noise, those #audiopods are really good and should be enough for most audio needs, Alicia sounded like she was right there. The only exception is privacy, in which case, having the latest #AirPods Pros will be recommended. #VisionPro
Going back to comfort, I will say, I didn't mind the #SoloKnit, of course, there was not chance for options. To ensure it fits well, requires some tightening, but discomfort was not a thought throughout the demo, your mind don't have time for that.
The demo was 20 mins and well scripted, so, there was not a lot of chance for exploration, I was able to launch Photos, #Safari and an #iPad compatible app called #Yummly If you want to explore more, you really have to buy it or borrow from a friend. #VisionPro
#VisionPro after todays demo is certainly the next chapter in computing. Unlike Quest, tis a well thought out product, its general purpose entertain device. If you have one, you really don't need an #iPad unless you plan on needing a device when in public spaces.
As much as #VisionPro can be used in public, I don't think I would want to or need to. Its a device for context and it should be used like any other technology you have in life. I am writing this on a desktop computer and it works great. Initially, I started on my #iPhone in the #Mastodon app, but considered I could get these thoughts out much faster using a physical keyboard.
I'm single, living with roommates and I have three monitors on my desk. I also have a #MacBook and #iPad. The #Vision Pro could easily consolidate some of the devices and physical hardware I currently use. Which is why I believe I do see this device being a big option in the coming years.
The cost remains the biggest factor with #VisionPro Apple I believe needs to get this down to 1,699 for it to mainstream, its still an #iOS device with a bigger view and more flexibility. I do understand they need to recoup the R&D but that can't be the excuse for the next two generations. Being sensitive to the environment so many people are going through, even for what it delivers, it is extremely expensive. Even if it means selling it at a loss in the next few years, then you will need to.
#FOV - I didn't talk about this. Yes, it does look like you looking through #binoculars but if you focus on only that, then thats all you are gonna see. If your intention is to see the kids, you will focus on the kids, if your intention is to relive a memory, that will be your aim, if your intention is to read web page, watch a movie, then field of view will not be a concern. #VisionPro
