Pro-tip: to install the developer strap, don’t use the the front hole near the strap (it’s actually on the inside).

Source: me. Who just obliterated one of the front microphones by mistake ☹️

Update: brought it to the Apple Store under AppleCare and they’ve sent it off to be repaired (hopefully).

I really hope they don’t have to toss it and that there’s some way they can fix it. I also really hope they can put up a giant dialog on the developer website warning developers of which hole to use (cc @settern)

I still feel horrible for breaking it already ☹️

@b3ll I’m on my 2nd unit already. Audio stopped working entirely, both speakers and mics. Still worked with AirPods but nothing else. Store just replaced it on the spot.
@everyplace wow that sounds like a colossal hardware failure. Did they try swapping the straps?

@b3ll that was what Reddit said, and I suggested it, but the strap service parts weren’t in stock, so my choice was a) wait 3-5 days, or b) replace the whole thing. Easy choice.

I tried reseating the straps before I went in and ALMOST poked out the mic like you did, but noticed the teensy grill first. But in retrospect the fact that I lost audio recording entirely makes me think it wasn’t just the straps but something larger.

@everyplace wild. I really hope mine doesn't have that happen
@b3ll didn’t the strap comes with a step by step guide?
@khaost it did, and I didn’t look at it until after I damaged it lol
@b3ll 😅 guess they need to figure out a way to force people to read the guide before ordering it …
@b3ll @settern I think they made enough profit in about 4 seconds to tolerate the loss.
@b3ll These things happen... Bought a 3D printer last year and one of my first actions after assembling it was destroying its SD card slot (Ender mounted it face-down for some reason, and upon encountering resistance I made the wise decision to just press the card in harder 🤦‍♂️)
@b3ll omg you broke record time to breaking a new toy wtf adammmm 😝
@b3ll i hope you bought the applecare
@jedmund I did!

@b3ll i think i initially saw that hole and was like "uhh that seems too easy" and then removed the headband and found the right hole.

then i looked at the instructions

@jedmund yeah I wish I was that smart lol, I only noticed once I felt it pop in
@b3ll @jedmund AppleCare+ on the Apple Vision Pro was crazy expensive but also for 1.0 product may be the smartest upgrade to buy.
@b3ll @nicklockwood yikes!! Thanks for sharing your misfortune.
@b3ll There’s some joke here about how you can’t tell what’s a button in Apple designs now.
@b3ll "Design is how it works”. Having 2 near-identical-looking holes close to where the strap connects is bad design, imo. Don't be too hard on yourself!
@leoncowle still feels real bad lol
@b3ll It would be nice if that over-engineered ejection tool prevented accidental insertion in other Apple Vision Pro holes.

@b3ll still time into get Apple care 😇

EDIT: Disregard 🙂

@willmon thankfully have it haha

omg, hope it comes back fixable under warranty 🫣
