Pro-tip: to install the developer strap, don’t use the the front hole near the strap (it’s actually on the inside).
Source: me. Who just obliterated one of the front microphones by mistake ☹️

Update: brought it to the Apple Store under AppleCare and they’ve sent it off to be repaired (hopefully).
I really hope they don’t have to toss it and that there’s some way they can fix it. I also really hope they can put up a giant dialog on the developer website warning developers of which hole to use (cc @settern)
I still feel horrible for breaking it already ☹️
@b3ll that was what Reddit said, and I suggested it, but the strap service parts weren’t in stock, so my choice was a) wait 3-5 days, or b) replace the whole thing. Easy choice.
I tried reseating the straps before I went in and ALMOST poked out the mic like you did, but noticed the teensy grill first. But in retrospect the fact that I lost audio recording entirely makes me think it wasn’t just the straps but something larger.
