Watching the fireworks from the kitchen window. This was the first New Year's Eve, that Lumi managed to stay awake until midnight. Her sister slept through the whole thing without a peep – I am very envious of this ability. Feels like a super power. This is the start of a yearlong quest to post an image every day and, as this is post 1 of 366, I thought an introduction might be in order: My name is Florian, dad of two, husband to one. We live in Essen, Germany. Photography is my main creative outlet. I have a camera with me all the time and wherever I go. I work as a web designer and developer at Haptiq, a small agency which I co-founded with my friend Claudio. You can follow along via RSS. I'll also post links to all posts over on Mastodon.

It's still raining. Left the house to go to a gym. (Yeah, I know – pretty cliché for the beginning of a new year, but I initiated the contact back in November, so… 🤷‍♂️) The trainer told me what I already know: My general fitness needs some improvement. But there's hope! At least my body still knows how to perform all of the exercises. (Thanks, years of calisthenics training!)

The rain finally stopped. Instead it has gotten very cold. After coming back home from a quick walk, I took this photo of my daughter warming up under a blanket near the radiator. 😂 My lense was tarnished (being cold coming from outside) while I was taking the image. Had a quick look at Parkleuchten earlier. It was raining, so it was as quiet as I have ever seen Gruga during this time. (Last year was packed!) Unobstructed views of most of the installations. 🙌 I'll try to go back tomorrow with the kids. Technical side note: The image stabilization capabilities of the X-T5 are amazing.

The sheer number of images at the end of the 366 days won't fit into one, single magazine, so I am thinking quarterly, maybe? A set of four magazines, with approx. 120 pages each. Do you, dear reader, still have a Flickr account? I used to be Pro subscriber, but cancelled a couple of years back, when I decided to rather post my images here. Every now and then I get reminded that it still exists, when they threaten to delete my images. Anyways, it seems none of my photos are publicly visible anymore… I myself am able to view all of my 5k+ photos just fine. Can anyone with a login confirm whether my images are visible if you are logged in?

Observing color. An interesting thing happened, since I started laying out all of the images of this 366 project in a magazine: Every other day, while taking photographs, I am considering if the subject in front of my lens will fit next to the image of the previous day. Unfortunately it doesn't in most cases so far, and now I am aware of it… This definitely adds another dimension to the whole process and makes it much more challenging. (As if it wasn't hard enough already!)
